View Full Version : Barry Williams's ME TV Spots
PracTz 07-20-2017, 01:50 PM I guess it's a living to him but he's dressed as Greg Brady was as a 70's teen even having a 1970's TV set -yet here he is in his 60's in the year 2017!
He even wore an Alf costume then took it off and whined whether they could have used Cousin Oliver instead!
At least Vicki Lawrence's character is SUPPOSED to be an old woman so it makes sense that her character would be stuck behind the times and not as though she's forever trying to recapture her teen glory days.
What does Cousin Oliver have to do with an ALF costume?
Bonniegirl 07-20-2017, 01:54 PM I think it's cool! I think Barry Williams is doing a really good job as "The summer of me" Spokesman! ;) He's entertaining and funny!:D

The one where he talks to his parents is funny.

Yeah!! I think all his METV promos are funny! :)
I also liked when Mama did promos and Dawn Wells (MaryAnn from Gilligan's Island) did the Summer of me before! I wish the other oldie TV stations Antenna, Cozi and LOGO were as fun as METV!! ;)

I remember those too. There are also ones with ALF and Bill Mumy from Lost In Space. Forget some of the others.

The only other ones I can remember are for MASH and Svengoolie.

As one of the promotions, Barry Williams (Greg Brady) is dressed in an ALF costume. He is made to dance around looking like a complete fool. After the dance, he takes the head off of his costume and says to the audience, "why couldn't they have cousin Oliver do this?" He was simply making a joke.

Never seen that promo.
Chocolate Moose 07-20-2017, 05:17 PM Not loving it but I don't get too worked up about it.
Not loving it but I don't get too worked up about it.
Why?
Chocolate Moose 07-21-2017, 01:31 PM It's not worth it. Its not specially terrible or wonderful.
MarshaMarshaMarsha 07-21-2017, 09:23 PM He's having fun doing it and making money too. He's one that seems proud to have been a part of the show, so good for him  . I'm not sure about the others.

I totally agree! ;) I think it's wonderful that he has good memories of playing Greg Brady! And wanted to do the promos for METV ! He seems like a nice guy with a good sense of humor! :)
Smiley13 07-30-2017, 06:55 PM I like the MeTV promos that have been airing with Barry. Good for him for embracing his most famous character and having fun with it.

My favorite is the one where he is in an ALF costume and mentions Cousin Oliver at the end.

I have seen that one. I think it is very amusing!
PracTz 08-01-2017, 10:02 AM So, to put in perspective, it's been 43 years since the show's been off the air. Does this mean that folks in 1974 would have no problems seeing 70-something Gloria Swanson get into a 1920's vamp costume? Well, I guess this thread shows there's a market.

The promos are cute and like someone said, he's having fun doing them.
stevea 08-20-2017, 08:40 PM I like the one where he's talking to Alice, and says it was a gas talking to you, too, Alice.
Someone mentioned all those Vicki Lawrence ones, too...they're all great, as well. I particularly like the one where she tells Kirk, I ain't beamin' anywhere with you.
