Exclusive First Season 8 Photo Shows Reunited Daryl and Carol
by Dalton Ross
July 12, 2017

The fight is on in season 8 of "The Walking Dead" as the communities of Alexandria, the Hilltop, and the Kingdom have united in the battle against their oppressor Negan.

And that means many of our favorites who barely interacted last season are back together fighting side by side. Favorites like, say, Daryl and Carol!

EW has the exclusive first photo from season 8, and it features Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride as their "Walking Dead" alter-egos just as you like them — with Carol packing heat and Daryl on his trusty motorcycle.

And if you like seeing this, there’s plenty more where that came from as showrunner Scott M. Gimple promises season 8 will build off the reunions and first-time unions that unfolded in the season 7 finale.

“The season finale last year, seeing all the characters together interacting as one, was thrilling. It was exciting to see all these configurations of characters we hadn’t seen before. Even Aaron merely giving Jerry an apple felt satisfying.”

Season 8 will continue that trajectory in a major way. “This is that times a million,” says Gimple of what’s to come. “Though it would be cool if the season began with just everybody giving each other apples. I’d be down with that.” He pauses. “But it’s not that.”

Exclusive "The Walking Dead" Season 8 Photo Shows Rick and Maggie Ready for War
by Dalton Ross
July 18, 2017

Following up on our exclusive first photo of Season 8 that showed a reunited Daryl and Carol, we now see Rick and Maggie once again working together to bring Negan down. And showrunner Scott M. Gimple promises that the zombie drama will find itself firmly in the “All Out War” arc from the comic book as we head into Season 8.

“We have basically set the stage for All Out War,” says Gimple. “Negan’s said it, everybody has seen they’re in it. It will play out quickly and propulsively and attentively and will shift around the focus quite a bit between the different places and battlegrounds and characters and communities.”

Fans should also expect to see a very confident, yet not overconfident, Rick Grimes — a far cry from his submissive start to season 7.

“His swagger is definitely back,” says Gimple. “But it’s a measured swagger. It’s a focused swagger. He absolutely has it and you will see it in episode 1.”

Another thing you can expect to see right out of the gate in the season premiere — which also happens to be the show’s landmark 100th episode — is action both fast and furious.

“It’s really a lot happening simultaneously,” promises the showrunner. “We just want the audience to hold on to their seat as they’re thrown through this thing.”

First up, it’s Norman Reedus once again perched on his motorcycle as Daryl Dixon. Daryl had a bit of a rough go of it last season (which is putting it mildly).

But here, he’s got himself a motorcycle and a crossbow, so how bad can things really be?! I suppose that depends on how things go in the all-out war against Negan and the Saviors.

Next up is a shot showing two-thirds of the new leadership triumvirate. Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and his pet tiger Shiva came to the rescue right as Rick (Andrew Lincoln) was about to watch Negan put Lucille to Carl’s head. Good timing!

Now, the two will be working together (along with Maggie and the Hilltop) to finish off their tormentor with the barbed-wire covered baseball bat. They may not be looking at each other in this new photo below, but tactically, I suppose that’s a smart move. Keep your eyes peeled for trouble, gentlemen!
