Do you think they should have done an "in character" reunion show showing what the characters were doing "now"

(Heck, make it in 1981 and you could centre it around Dodie being taken to the prom)

Absolutely!

I think they had some reunion that involved M3S and The Partridge Family, but I've never see it. Maybe around 1977.

even a Next Generation telemovie done now showing what Dodie, Ernie, Chip, Katie and Polly and their families have done in the years since Steve, Barbara and Charley died would be a nice curio.

The network wanted to. But Fred MacMurray wasn't interested. I remember Beverly Garland talking on "Entertainment Tonight" in the 80s, and she said, "MacMurray doesn't want to do it." (Not Fred, BTW, haha). He was retired at that point, and perhaps his health wouldn't allow it. I know he fought leukemia in his later years.

They did do a reunion special in 1977 at Thanksgiving time. It was combined though with the Partridge Family. Both Fred and Uncle Charlie were in it too. Along with Beverly & Katie, Rob & Chip & Ernie. Only drawback ½ the show was devoted to Partridge Family, I would have rather the entire special be for 3 Sons.

The 1977 special was a retrospective, not an in-character reunion.

It was as close to a reunion special as we're ever going to see. Beggars can't be choosers.

You replied to this thread saying "your wish was their command", but no, because the OP was talking about an in-character reunion. The 1977 special was not.
