I've read about where the tradition of fireworks come from. but Barbecuing? I seriously doubt Washington. Franklin. Adams and the rest of the founding fathers decided to sit around and cook burgers. hotdogs. ribs. chicken. porkchops. etc while fighting for our independence

LOL!!! That is funny picturing them BBQing!!

I think the BBQING tradition is simply because July 4 is a hot summer day with most people off from work, and kids off of school. A perfect day for having a get together and a cook out!!:)

I'm pretty sure they used a barbecue to keep warm at Valley Forge.

Maybe the Founding Fathers were sending a metaphorical message to England or "cooking away the Crown", "roasting Colonialism over the coals", "turning the Tories to toast", "skewering the Stamp Act", "blazing the Brits", etc. Like when we had Freedom Fries about fifteen years ago.
