Have fun and make up some Facts of Life-inspired haikus! If you're not familiar with, a haiku is a three line poem
First line-5 syllables
Second line-7 syllables
Third line-5 syllables
Rhyming isn't necessary!

Spoiled little rich girl
Snob but with a heart of gold
A great foil for Jo

Tough girl joins the show
Likes bikes and using her fists
A great foil for Blair

Roller skating girl
Likely to get in trooouuubbbllle!
She is Nat's best friend

Chubby, sarcastic
Slims down, becomes a writer
She's Tootie's best friend

Mrs. G takes care
Of the girls with tender love
Sage advice, good food

Nice ode to the "forgotten" girls, Bonnie! I hope to come up with one devoted to my favorite, Nancy.

 I agree, Anna, the hair on that show got large! Ah, the '80s! A while ago a high school friend and I were looking at old pictures from then, and we wondered how we even got through the doorways!:)

For me, only the Eastland dorm and the Eastland cafeteria are the real "Facts of Life". All those crazy episodes with bakeries, tacky souvenir shops, and closed shops are like a bad spin-off. The bakery episodes were less bad than the later incarnations, though, and that set was homey.

Yeah, I know Edna's Edibles is the beginning of moving away from classic "Facts", but darn it, Edna Garrett just deserves her moment of glory owning her own business, lol. And yes, that's the "least offensive" of the post-Eastland incarnations, lol.

And, oh no! I just realized I mixed up headmasters earlier! Mr. Parker was the final headmaster, it was Mr. Harris who was the one-shot headmaster for one episode:

I guess the stress of the job caused him to get so rude. That job must have been really difficult; no one stayed in that job for very long. Crocker, Bradley, Harris, Parker, ???...

Ah, the ole Haiku thread! Nice one!

Seriously, the writers couldn't think of one use for that piano?!

On the table there

lol, at least the mystery meat got a mention, and an interaction! The poor piano was never even acknowledged. :(

And thanks to your old limerick from the past, I now always think of the mystery meat as "smelling of bare feet"

Well, that's not technically true: the piano is prominently featured in Season 8, in the opening credits: the cast gathers merrily around the piano, Jo even sitting on top of it. Beverly Ann even plays it. Only Tootie refused to take part, facing away from the piano she clearly hated so much.

Natalie also shares screen time with the piano in the opening credits for that season.

Right...no, there is only one "common room", and that is in the dorm; in fact, I had never even heard of "common room" until this show, lol. Really, except for season 1 FOL, I've rarely heard that term ever used at all!

As for "the common room in the store", since that's a residential house attached to/above a store, I would call that the "living room"; "common rooms" are strictly on educational campuses.

Yes, you're right. I just wasn't thinking. The piano in the living room had a bigger role, and so my mind jumped to it, rather than the oh-so-neglected piano in the common room in the dorm.

Maybe Mrs. Garrett or one of her girls played it sometime during the Parents' Night shindig at Eastland.

Yes, there was a payphone, too!

I just assumed they added the second phone. Do we ever see the payphone after the first four episodes? Who would use it, after there was a perfectly free phone installed 10 feet away?

And is this pay phone the same one that's seen in the lounge in the cafeteria, in season two?

I just assumed they added the second phone. Do we ever see the payphone after the first four episodes?

I never even thought about the different phones before. Good question, we'll have to see if the pay phone is there in 1980---I would doubt it, but you never know.

*Update* - So far from what I'm seeing, the camera never pans beyond the left side of the window framing the front door. I would assume it's not there anymore, but you never know, maybe they just left it up and decided to keep it out of view, lol (though that would leave the audience wondering why there's a pay phone and a freebie 10 feet away, lol).

Who would use it, after there was a perfectly free phone installed 10 feet away?

Princess Alexandra! ;)

And is this pay phone the same one that's seen in the lounge in the cafeteria, in season two?

Oo, great question! It would sure be hard to tell since I assume pay phones all pretty much looked the same (within their own various models---booth, wall mount, etc.), but there sure is a great chance it was the same one.

But of all the words I'd use to describe Natalie, "catty" wouldn't be one of them. Can't say that for Blair...

Right. Ones we hear for Natalie are "affable", "amiable, "jokester", "class clown", etc.

But even Blair, I wouldn't use "catty" for after season 2.; at least, not regularly Once she and Jo started getting more used to each other, sure, she still had catty moments, but more of that was in the first two seasons.
