Ann lost his temper because he threw a plant at her.

She also snapped at Julie and slapped her for pushing her buttons.

Maybe she was slapped as a child and that is how she reacts during stress. She was also kind of violent with Sam too when he insulted her :confused:

Sonny Boy is like our least favorite episode, maybe Ann Romano at her most strident and unreasonable.

Catcher In the Mud is also a clunker and episodes like these are part of the reason that Ann Romano and Bonnie Franklin get such ribbing.
