View Full Version : Adam F. Goldberg is a fake, a phony and a fraud
Wawwie 06-25-2017, 09:56 PM I was always a huge "Goldbergs" fan up until this very moment. Now that I know that it's true, now that I know that it's a fact that Erica Goldberg never existed, I just can't ever take the show seriously. Adam F. Goldberg is not a genius or a visionary. He is a sell out who sold out his oldest brother Eric in order to create a fake sister named Erica. This show is not about Adam's childhood, it is about fake fantasies. It is fiction.

Torgo 06-25-2017, 10:21 PM I never thought any of it was a 100 percent real life, heck they've even said some of the stories were also inspired by other crew.
Yong Fang 06-25-2017, 11:07 PM TV shows and films do this a lot. Take a story from real life and change it. The TV show wanted a sister for the show. This isn't a biography.
Anna Karenina 06-25-2017, 11:08 PM Wawwie, what do you think of every episode going in and out of the time period?
They don't seem to follow any rules on that show, just take the whole concept of continuity and throw it out the window.
They are worse than The Golden Girls or The Lucy Show.

Very true, but Golden Girls was always known to be fiction. The show never presented itself to be real in any way. Adam F. Goldberg proclaimed to be presenting a true history of his life. And now I know it's all fake. He is a liar. The women on GG are not liars, they are just actresses. Adam F. Goldberg is a phony who presents a fake depiction of his life... that never existed.
Torgo 06-25-2017, 11:19 PM So, what you're trying to tell me, is that Adam's uncle never really bought a De Loreon? None of the kids really met Charlie Sheen's character from Ferris Bueler's Day Off?
I am totally shocked!
Wawwie 06-25-2017, 11:27 PM Answer me this.... if you were ERIC GOLDBERG. would you be upset that your little brother turned you into a fictitious female named Erica???

Well this discussion reminds me of "Fresh Off The Boat" where the creator was upset because they used creative license with his childhood experiences.
Perhaps the network wanted a pretty girl with the nerdy boys.

Never saw "Fresh Off the Boat" so I don't know. All I know is that Eric Goldberg is Adam's oldest brother and Adam chose to deny him and betray him.

I didn't fully read the article I linked, did it say that in there?

Adam absolutely denied Eric. If my brother did that to me, I would never forgive him, but I guess that's just me. I have a problem with being denied and betrayed. I'm a female, so I would also have a big problem if my brother portrayed me as a guy. Call me kooky, that's just me. Sorry, I think Eric Goldberg was ****ed big time.

Well, maybe those two brothers can work out things eventually and have a confessional voice over where he explains that he was so mad at him growing up that he switched his gender in his writings but in reality she was a he!
Just like Roseanne on the last show making the "real" Jackie gay, Bev her mom hetero again and killing off Dan for her own psychological reasons.
I am not sure if I am making any actual sense here but I am trying. :D
IllinoisTVFan 06-25-2017, 11:54 PM Adam F Goldberg has said he changed the gender of Eric to Erica to add a female teen. Nothing wrong with that. Sure, it's based on his life but he admits he added things. Also, the real Goldbergs were richer and the father was a doctor.

Roseanne was always pure fiction from the start, so there's no comparrison.
As for The Goldbergs, it's too late. Adam turned Eric into a girl. That's mean, vindictive and selfish IMO. Eric doesn't ever need to forgive him. What's done is done. There is no going back.
Side note: that's just horrible! I would never turn my brother into a girl under any circumstance.
OK, I need to get off of this subject, because it is infuriating me.
TEAM ERIC!!!

Well, I think my comparison was pretty good as it was based on Roseanne's stand up act that was based on her family life. Just like Ray Romano did with ELR.

Then it's not a true depiction of history, now is it?

Wawwie 06-26-2017, 12:12 AM Goldberg didn't have a sister and instead opted to turn his older brother, Eric, into Erica -- as played by Hayley Orrantia. "Adding a daughter into the mix would open up the whole world and bring us different kinds of stories," the writer/executive producer said, acknowledging that his brother wasn't wild about having been made fun of as a kid for being the "girl" of the family. .
robyrob 06-26-2017, 07:44 AM the show never claimed to be "TRUE HISTORY" - the narrative was that it is representative of the 80's and loosely based on his memories growing up, its not like they are acting out each page in Adam F. Goldberg's diary every week.
I think you are projecting too much into Eric's feelings - has there ever been any reports or accounts of him being even slightly upset about his portrayal in the show?
I can see the value to the network in having a teenage daughter on the show and it does help the family dynamic - and it probably helped sell the network on the show to begin with. It was never intended to be real - and by your logic ever sitcom writer or person that tells a story is "a liar".
Boycott and hate the show if you want, but I think you are giving up on a pretty good show for a petty reason.
IllinoisTVFan 06-26-2017, 03:15 PM Yeah I don't get this to be honest. Nothing against Wawwie, I like her, but I think she is reading too much into this. I'm glad they added a daughter, as a teen in the 80's it was different being a girl compared to a boy.
Anna Karenina 06-26-2017, 03:34 PM I think in a way they kept him alive by making her name "Erica".
Maybe they could have gone another way but I like the girl playing her, she plays well off of the other 2 and gives Beverly a chance to play other beats if you will with a daughter rather than another son to smother. Their relationship is fueled with more emotion than the other two because they are two hormonal females in a house with males who are kind of dense at times. They really get into some good squabbles sometimes with tears and welt schmertz that the boys can't quite capture as well given their personalities.

"Is the sister on the show, Erica Goldberg (Hayley Orrantia), based on a real person?
Yes, but in real life, Erica is actually Eric, Adam Goldberg's oldest brother. The Goldbergs true story reveals that he did not have any sisters. "I saw more stories coming out of having a daughter in the mix," Goldberg reasons. "I really took all of Eric's characteristics" and sculpted them onto a teenage girl's personality. What does Adam's real-life brother think of this gender change? "He was disappointed at first, but he has complete deniability of his character now." -JewishExponent.com"

Goldberg originally named the show “The Silvers.” He also made one other change—since it wasn’t supposed to be his family, he changed his oldest brother, Eric, to a girl, Erica. The original tone of the show was going to be edgy like “How did I survive this?” Goldberg says. Whereas the actual show takes a more nostalgic look back with the attitude of “Do you remember how awesome this was back then?” Goldberg wasn’t even going to include clips of his real videos in the show.
“Then the president of ABC at the time, Paul Lee, called me and said, ‘I want you to show your videos after every episode, and I want to name it The Goldbergs.’”

Paul made the right call.
The home movies are what makes the show stand out from the pack of other period pieces on TV.

He is NOT upset. He's said so many times, as recently as the episode on 3/20/19.
Why are you obsessed with Eric?
It's a TV show BASED on Adam F. Goldberg's' life.
According to Eric, a lot of the stories attributed to Erica DID happen to him. Some are exaggerated.

It doesn't bother me and I like the show. It's just a TV sitcom basically meant to entertain people so get over it already.
