In the new season, around Episode 10, we see her helping out in Medical, but we don't see her the rest of the season.

She left early on during Season 5 (around Ep. 4) walking down the hallway from medical to find "her friend" (Sister Ingalls). She meets her cellmate from the SHU who tells her that the nun was given compassionate release after getting sick w/ pneumonia.

She then walks outside and runs into the prison guards. It is assumed she was then taken to Max.

Now I remember seeing that! We assume she was taken to Max? We do not assume she went free?

Why would she be free? There's a riot going on and she's an inmate who "escaped".

Do we assume that the fence from which she escaped is the only fence?

What about the character (the feral, one, I forget her name) who also went through the fence? She went to the guards' house and had snacks and TV.

Well we know that Sophia wasn't free as she walked right up to the prison guards. She "escaped" meaning that she went outside of the prison (where she shouldn't be).

The other one going to the guard house was when everyone got outside through the fence and I don't think anyone knew she went there. She was taken back to Litchfield, however.
