View Full Version : GetTV replaced in Columbus by TBD
omg65 06-18-2017, 11:48 AM This really stinks. GetTV was replaced by some stupid millennial channel called TBD in the Columbus Ohio market. Also GRITTV was replaced by a channel called CHARGE. TBD is absolutely awful trying to appeal to the Millennial age group who don't watch TV and CHARGE is worse than GRIT.I'm beginning to think that a few years down the road that AntennaTV and METV will become unrecogniseable with only shows from the 90's and later airing.Another example of the over 50 age group being discarded.
stevea 06-18-2017, 12:04 PM What you're saying will happen stands to reason...look at what happened to TV Land (but, I might add, all those Viacom networks are struggling, last time I checked).
Checking Wiki, found that TBD (as well as Comet and Charge) is owned by Sinclair. Now, this could really be bad news...for Antenna TV, and for us. (For those who haven't heard, Sinclair is in the process of buying Tribune, owner of Antenna TV).
Looking at the TBD schedule, it appears to be a lot of nothing. Zero sitcoms. One hope I (we?) could cling to is that Antenna could be more successful than any of those, and the least successful could be dropped in favor of Antenna. (We get Comet here--another "a lot of nothing", IMO).
stevea 06-18-2017, 01:44 PM Wiki says TBD has 25% coverage, way less than Antenna TV. Business-wise, they'd be nuts to terminate Antenna in favor of TBD. They could shut down TBD, and rebrand Antenna like TBD was, but they'd probably risk nullifying an awful lot of contracts.
BigManMike 06-18-2017, 02:26 PM In my area, Antenna is on a Tribune station and I still do not have Charge or TBD. All I want is for Sinclair to stop the credit crunches on Antenna TV. I don't care if they have to add two or three hours of paid programming in the early morning. If it will get rid of the credit crunch, in all for it.
omg65 06-18-2017, 03:30 PM I remember when Columbus Channel 10 dropped Antenna TV a couple years ago and replaced it with Decades. Then shortly afterward,Columbus Channel 6 added Antenna TV so it was only off the air here for maybe 6 months.I'm getting tired of these sub channels changing and no media coverage at all announcing it or even questioning it.You just turn on the TV one day and boom,Antenna TV was gone,GRIT was gone,GetTV was gone. They do what they want to do without regard to anything but the $$$. When I questioned why the change, they say,"we have done survey's and that's what our customers wanted".Yeah right.I call bullsh** on that. That in a nutshell is a big problem in society nowadays. The overemphasis of chasing the $$$ is way out of whack. There are too many monopolies and not enough independent businesses anymore.
MikeLutton 06-18-2017, 03:46 PM I rather have Get tv then tbd any day
stevea 06-18-2017, 03:51 PM Talking about "rather haves", I have get tv, but from what I've heard, I'd rather have Decades.

Decades is very good.I do like some of their weekend marathons.A Gomer Pyle marathon is on right now.Next week is Get Smart. I believe last week or the week before was My Three Sons. A very solid channel indeed.
1960'sTVfan 06-18-2017, 04:05 PM Get TV airs a few interesting shows but I'm not a huge watcher of the channel. I like the Sonny And Cher repeats and some of the other old variety shows they air. I'm glad I recorded the Peter Loves Mary episodes when they ran them because the show isn't on the schedule now and it's unclear whether it will return to the schedule or not. I also recorded the episodes of Girl With Something Extra, that show is still on the schedule for this week but I think it's gone after that.
stevea 06-18-2017, 04:58 PM Not trying to confuse issues, but a lot of these channels are digital sub-channels of local TV--they aren't directly carried by cable or satellite companies, but through negotiations with local channels. So, let say I don't get Decades--it's not because Comcast doesn't carry it, it's because no local channel carries it (to confuse it even more, if a local channel picks up a digital channel, there's no assurance the cable or satellite company will also pick it up, at least until the next contract negotiation-but at least it would be available over-the-air). Other digital channels are Antenna TV, Laff, Grit, Get TV, MeTV, Comet, and others I've forgotten.

They usually have some pretty lousy choices for marathons, but this month has been good. I enjoyed My Three Sons last weekend, and I plan to watch some Gomer Pyle later today and some Get Smart next weekend. But the weekend after that is another Peter Gunn marathon which they have done on more than one occasion and is one I could care less about.
My TV affiliate doesn't even have GetTV.

Yep. There are some channels like COZI and BUZZR that are over the air only and are not on my cable carrier in my area.Despite the transmitter being relatively close, the signal is weak and if you don't have an outside antenna or an inside amplified antenna, they can be inconsistent as far as actually picking them up.Actually I live in a 2 story dwelling and upstairs I can pickup COZI on an amplified antenna but downstairs ground level I cannot. I wonder how those stations stay on the air when they really have very minimal households they can reach ?
