In the past, I have written quite a bit about Katie's unrealistic optimism in the third season's "Samantha's Protest". I have also written a lot about all the things that have gone on around me that remind me of "Samantha's Protest". A female poster even made a joke about how a thumbtack could remind of of "Samantha's Protest"! Well, something that happened last night caused me to think of it again! First let us go back to the first scene in the episode. As Katie and Julie were walking through the from door, Julie's first line was "I cannot believe the height of your egotism! He was not whistling at you, he was calling his dog!" It was clear that they passed the boy that Katie liked on their way home from the dry cleaner's. Katie's sense of optimism caused her to talk herself into believing that he was whistling at her. Well, last night, I watched a syndicated episode of "Family Feud" with Steve Harvey. He asked for the top six answers to the question of what a man does when he sees a very attractive women coming. Whistling was the second highest answer to this question! The most popular answer was stair/check her out. I do not have a clear memory of what the other four were.
