Lucy Hale is turning 33 today. Hale grew up in the Memphis, TN, area, and began taking acting and singing lessons as a young girl. She began her career when she was 13, as a contestant on the short-lived reality singing competition series American Juniors.
Hale is best known for her starring role as one of a group of Pretty Little Liars. She starred as Aria Montgomery, one of the quartet of title characters on the Freeform series which ran for seven seasons beginning in 2010.
Hale made several TV guest appearances in the mid-2000s, and in 2007 was cast as a regular on NBC’s Bionic Woman. The series, a “re-imagining” of the 1970s show, was canceled after just 8 episodes.
A year later, Hale landed another regular role on a short-lived series, The CW’s Privileged. She also made her feature film debut in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, as the younger sister of Alexis Bledel’s character. And before long, the producers of Pretty Little Liars came calling.
During the run of Pretty Little Liars, Hale largely put her feature film career on hold, although she made a cameo in Scream 4. But in 2018, she began making up for lost time, starring in Truth or Dare, Dude and The Unicorn. In 2020, she had a major role in the horror film adaptation of Fantasy Island and starred in the rom-com A Nice Girl Like You.
Also in 2020, Hale starred in the title role of The CW’s Katy Keene. The Riverdale spinoff lasted just one season, but Hale has since made at least one crossover appearance on the parent series. Last fall she began starring on the British-American thriller series Ragdoll, which airs on AMC in the US. Her latest feature film appearance was Big Gold Brick.
