FAA allows a its first large, remote-controlled plane to fly at a drone test site.
The four-seater Centaur will be tested to study collision avoidance technology
The event marks a step toward a future when remote-controlled passenger planes could share the skies. This could happen in the next 5-7 years!
What do you think?

I'm wholly against it, even more so than with self-driving cars. Yes, when programmed correctly, they should minimize accidents due to no human error. But what about machine error? It could be even worse. One thing we've learned is computers and electronics aren't reliable at all. It's one thing when your desktop freezes, but when you're 20,000 feet in the air and the computer system fails (a statistical certainty), and no one aboard is a pilot and/or there's no way to manually take control (because after all, this is a "self-flying plane"), you'll realize how important a human hand is.

And that's not even accounting for intentional hacking by enemies. Anything with a computer in it can be hacked and used for malicious purposes. Imagine the chaos when hackers have access to entire passenger planes from the comfort of their homes? I have to say this is a terrible idea.
