I have an idea for temporary icon while we wait for Sharon Kinne segment Yes, episode 23. dynoguy88 06-09-2017, 08:29 AM In regards to the Nelson DeCloud segment, I always wondered what the ending story was with Julie's parents once DeCloud was captured. Were they ever reunited? Did their relationship remain strained because she "abandoned" the cult? The whole parents angle is completely left out of the segment. The cult members who confronted Nelson about his cruelty (and were then humiliated as a result) were always friends but nothing was ever mentioned of the parents or what THEY were doing all those years while their daughter was being abused. justins5256 06-09-2017, 08:39 AM In regards to the Nelson DeCloud segment, I always wondered what the ending story was with Julie's parents once DeCloud was captured. This is one of those cases that I am surprised and glad that Filmrise was allowed to stream because of the fact it involves a cult and it ultimately has a happy ending for the people who escape it. Almost all of the child abduction cases that have happy endings are not in the Amazon Video edition of UM. It is very similar to another case that aired in Season 5 "Alexander Olive" where a lady joins a cult and gets pregnant. Unfortunately, the Alexander Olive case was left off of Season 5. SitcomsAreTheWay 06-09-2017, 08:06 PM The segment titles never cease to amaze me. Who in the world is coming up with them? dynoguy88 06-13-2017, 09:04 AM According to the update on Amazon, Elizabeth Fuentes Ortiz was released from jail. Was this known? I've researched online and I can't find anything on it. The latest news I could find on her was her being denied parole in 2014. Also, the text update finishes by saying Gilbert and Jonathan were reunited and leaves it at that. No mention of the endless drama that followed AFTER their reunion. Gilbert's case just makes me so sad at the end of the day because he fought so hard to find his son, only to have his son turn out to be so difficult. And I'm putting that mildly. During two separate incidents in 2011, Jonathan, at age 20, brutally beat Gilbert. He blamed Gilbert for his mother’s imprisonment. In January 2011, he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and inflicting great bodily injury. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2011/01/24/redwood-city-dad-attacked-19-years-after-milkshake-poisoning/ In 2012, Jonathan and two friends were arrested for attempted murder after they beat a man and cut him with a bottle. https://patch.com/california/redwoodcity-woodside/police-arrest-three-men-for-attempted-murder Todd Mueller 06-13-2017, 01:15 PM What drama? Elizabeth's family/friends put on quite the smear campaign against Gilbert. They tried to claim all sorts of crazy stuff trying to make him look bad. A few even came on this board and argued that she was really the victim. ^^^^ EDIT: dynoguy88 beat me to the the even juicier stuff! JannTosh 06-13-2017, 04:09 PM the Blind River killer segment is in Season 5. "I'm gonna rob you then I'm gonna kill you" dynoguy88 06-14-2017, 12:01 AM Watching the lost love case on episode 16 (titled Priceless Search) was surreal. That was the case where Eugene Price and his brother were looking for their three sisters after they were separated because of their parents nasty divorce in the 1960's. The family lived in Wyandotte, MI, just ten miles down the road from where I live. UM came here to film the reenactment and the actor playing young Eugene was a classmate of mine in middle school. I can still remember sitting in 7th grade home room and the teacher reading the announcements, "don't forget to watch Unsolved Mysteries tonight to see our own Corey Padesky!" They located the sisters (all three had been adopted by the same family) and the reunion was filmed in Taylor, just two miles from me, in the parking lot of a strip mall I have been to many times. I recognized the area and stores immediately, even as a kid. And a random fact, the reunion was filmed on my 13th birthday. It's been so many years since I've seen this segment. I love the local ties and the fact that it had a happy ending. RevengeTypeBurn 06-14-2017, 07:05 AM Watching the lost love case on episode 16 (titled Priceless Search) was surreal. My bff lives in Wyandotte and I'll take pics soon. The Senate Coney Island on Ecorse for the reunion was neat too! NCRavensFan86 06-15-2017, 12:47 PM Regarding Elizabeth Ortiz, I remember Lifetime aired a NEW video update on this case in the 2001-2002 seasons and even back then I remember hearing about Jonathan having problems with his Dad. Amazon will probably air the Video Update in Season 11 or Season 12, they did not release it with Season 5 because I think they want the segments/updates to be as close to their original airdate as possible. That is why the Ethel Kidd case got a text update, but the video update will not air until sometime in Season 8 or 9, because Keely Shay Smith narrates the Update segment. If Amazon aired a video update of the Ortiz case, it would seem out of place because of what season it aired in and the VERY different sound of Robert Stack's voice from 2002 vs 1992. hostedbyrobertstack 06-15-2017, 12:59 PM I was like " Holy crap, they filmed outside Prushes bar!" In the intro, Robert Stack previews the cases that celebrate the spirt of the holiday season and then at the end of the episode, he wishes the viewers a safe and happy holiday. The cases are Chucky McGivern and Russell & Jean Johnson. Obvious choices there. But the other two cases are Anthonette Cayedito (who was born on Christmas Day 1976 so I guess that's sort of a connection) and....Neil Jennings? Not seeing anything there. Somehow, a senior citizen getting shot twice in the back, set ablaze and then his truck stolen is not something that puts me in the Christmas spirit. unsolved243 06-18-2017, 11:06 AM I had forgotten that episode 14 of this season was packaged as a Christmas themed episode. Haha I agree that Neil's case is not very Christmas-y. However, I believe it is a "filler" segment from another episode (January 20, 1993). I think it was replacing a "Lost Loves Rollcall" and a Christmas lost loves segment, The Parents of Alexandra Stantzos. I don't know why this lost loves segment was not included on Amazon Prime; it's a segment i've never seen before. WishfulDreamer 06-18-2017, 12:33 PM I think it was replacing a "Lost Loves Rollcall" and a Christmas lost loves segment, The Parents of Alexandra Stantzos. I don't know why this lost loves segment was not included on Amazon Prime; it's a segment i've never seen before. The only reason I can think of is that Alexandra passed away not long after the broadcast (I believe only a year or two). It wasn't shown very often in syndication either, perhaps at her family's request. This could be a reason why they opted not to show it on Prime, either. dynoguy88 06-24-2017, 12:33 AM The last episode of season five featured the Reggie Depalma case, a segment I had not seen in forever. But it's just as disturbing as I remember. Raping several underage girls and only getting 20 years for it seems an awful lot like a slap on the wrist, especially since he was released in 2015 after serving 14 years of the 20 year sentence. UM never mentioned what became of Reggie's girlfriend Bonnie, who would stay in the room and watch every time Reggie assaulted these girls. It was said that she loved him so much and worried about losing him that she went along with it every time. Info online says she was sentenced to 5 years in prison for child endangerment. There's also an interesting article online about how in 2004, she was fired from her job as an elementary school bus driver when her employers found out about her time in jail and her involvement in what Depalma did. The latest on Depalma, as of 2015, is that he is back in Connecticut and registered as a sex offender. Apparently, he married and started a family during his 17 years on the run. They were completely shocked when they learned of his past. I'm glad justice was served in this case but I still feel like he wasn't punished enough. Multiple child rapes deserve more than a 14 year stay in prison. DP1 06-24-2017, 12:40 AM The "I have to get back to the fish" disappearance in on this season too. I thought they were going to leave that out. |
