For those of you who wish you got Mayberry RFD instead of TAGS on your Me-TV station, if you get Decades, they're doing a binge of Mayberry RFD on July 8 and 9.

thanx-I'll be watching; I haven't seen that show in YEARS, I'll be anxious to see if it's as good as I remember. This past week they showed the first episode in honor of Andy Griffiths birthday.

Watching it now. Really a very solid show. Not as good as TAGS of course but pretty good. Hats off to Decades who on the average seem to have excellent binges about every other weekend IMO.
Watching the very beautiful Emmaline Henry in 'New Couple in Town'.

We also get to see a young Teri Garr briefly, in the episode where Millie does a Hollywood interview and blows it (producers were able to see wacky home movie footage of Millie as an ersatz screen test). Teri's character supposedly has a genuine southern accent. I think she was credited as "Terri" in the closing.

Maggie Petersen, better known as Charlene Darling from TAGS, also appears in a later ep. -- credited as Margaret.

Why Maggie Petersen didn't play Charlene is beyond me. You'd think that they'd want to evoke as much of TAGS as possible.

Do you know what doesn't work for me? Aunt Bee taking care of Sam and Mike. In TAGS, she is helping her nephew raise his son and clearly loves them both. But in RFD, I never get the sense that she gives a crap about Sam and Mike. I suppose her frequent absences don't help. In one episode, Mike's friend Harold says about her: "Well, she's YOUR aunt" when they're talking about who should ask her something. Um, no she's not. And it shows.

Perhaps Sam should have been written as a cousin of Andy's. It would have been more realistic for Aunt Bee to move in with them.

Sam being a cousin would have been a good idea. Also, maybe they could have written him as less of a Mr. Goody Two-Shows Know it All.

For instance, in that Dream Spinner episode that Maggie Petersen was in (one of the best MRFD episodes, BTW), he just had to spoil Goober and Emmet's joke...
