The family is squabbling but then comes together when they are replaying the Martin Luther King "I Have a Dream" speech. Even Denise and Vanessa, who have a knock down fight over a borrowed sweater, hug each other. In essence, this just trivialized Dr. King's speech for the sake of a heart-warming sitcom ending. No matter what the producers' intentions were, it came off as manipulative and heavy-handed "relevance".
