A thought popped into my head unexpectedly one night while I was watching "Fresh Prince" on MTV2: What if Tyra Ferrell had replaced the departing Janet Hubert as Vivian for the series' fourth season (1993-94) instead of Daphne Maxwell Reid?

For those of you who haven't the slightest clue who Tyra Ferrell is, she is best known for her role as Brenda Baker, Doughboy and Ricky's mother, in John Singleton's coming-of-age classic "Boyz N The Hood." Ferrell also co-starred with Wesley Snipes in Spike Lee's interracial drama "Jungle Fever" and the basketball comedy "White Men Can't Jump" (written and directed by Ron Shelton).

I was intrigued by Ferrell's resemblance to Hubert, and I honestly think that Ferrell would've been perfect as Vivian. As much I like Daphne Maxwell Reid, I think she was miscast in the role; Reid's portrayal of Vivian was too sympathetic, even doting, at times...Reid transformed Vivian into a Barbara Billingsley-esque homemaker instead of the no-nonsense, take-no-s**t college professor she was during the first three seasons.
