In light of the terrorist attack that happened at an Ariana Grande concert ,
it occurred to me that Davy Jones was reportedly from Manchester.
Is it the same Manchester?
If it would have been Liverpool, there would probably be some mention about the Beatle's hometown.

Yes, indeed the late Mr. Jones was a proud Mancunian (what locals call themselves) [specifically the neighborhood of Openshaw about two miles from the city center) and lived there from birth to the age of fourteen after his mother's death. I believe that he has surviving sisters, nieces and nephews living there but have no idea whether any of them were among the victims in that horrible, senseless attack.

Obviously, I can't speak for the dead but I can't help but think were he still living, he'd have done all he could to try to help and comfort his fellow citizens especially those injured.

How do you pronounce "Mancunian" ?
Is it MAN-COO-NIGH-ANN?
Is it MAN-CUE-NEE-ANN?
Is it MAN -KUNNY-ANN?

Why isn't it Manchester-ite (which I think would be best pronunciation-wise)?
Or why isn't it Manchest-ian?


BTW do you know anything else about the vicinity? Is it another version of Liverpool which was a tough working class neighborhood (at least in the later 1900s it was) ?

AFAIK, it's pronounced 'Man-CUE-Nee-an'. As for Mr. Jones's neighborhood, it was a depressed working class area and for his entire childhood, they were required to use an outhouse as their home did NOT have a commode. Mr. Dolenz always said that Mr. Jones was incredibly 'street wise' from a very early age and I can see HOW that could have happened. Yes, those episodes which implied that his character was from a wealthy background were the OPPOSITE of how and where he had actually grown up.

In any case, I can't imagine he'd have not wanted to have helped out were he alive during the horrible aftermath.
