"SpongeBob SquarePants" Renewed through 2019

Hold on at least somewhat squarely to your pants: "SpongeBob SquarePants" has been renewed for a 12th season.

Nickelodeon has ordered 26 more episodes of the animated series featuring the underwater exploits of a sea sponge and his friends in Bikini Bottom, EW has learned.



The No. 1-rated animated show among children 2-11 is currently in season 10; season 11 will debut later this summer.

Season 12 is slated to premiere in 2019, which will be a big year for the show. It’s not only the 20th anniversary, it’s when the third SpongeBob movie will hit theaters.





“I’m one lucky airbreather to be the voice of Stephen Hillenburg’s briny brainchild!” said Tom Kenny, who voices SpongeBob, in a statement to EW.

“This pickup is great news for me and my pliable poriferan pal! Twelve seasons, 18 years: It blows my mind when I do the math and realize that SpongeBob has been living in my head for nearly one-third of my life now… and he’s the best roommate I’ve ever had! (Hopefully he says the same about me!)

Our Wednesday full-cast recording sessions still provide the biggest laughs of my week. It’s like therapy, but I get paid! SpongeBob SquarePants has the best creator, cast, and Krusty Krew on land or sea, and the best part is that I feel like the episodes we are doing right now are some of the most surreal, bizarre, crazy, creative ones ever! SpongeBob may be square, but he keeps on rolling right along!”

SpongeBob fell off its 5th season IMO. It's no good now.

Good gravy I stopped watching this show over ten years ago. Ridiculous that it's still on. All they're doing is tarnishing the name even more.

surprising to see spongebob still airs in nickelodeon and still popular. i guess little kids and most adults like it, but i guess older kids hate it IMO

I was never a Spongebob Fan...now they're The Simpsons for Nickelodeon!

I was in middle school when Spongebob Squarepants first came on the air.

I can't believe that Spongebob Squarepants has been on for 11 years now and I also can't believe that it will have a 12th Season soon and I think the reason why Spongebob Squarepants has become so successful for Nickelodeon is because just like Rugrats became huge Nickelodeon hoped to do the same with Spongebob Squarepants and it has proved to be one of Nickelodeon's popular cartoons in the history of Nickelodeon. And also like Rugrats Nickelodeon has put Spongebob Squarepants on all sorts of merchandise such as clothing food cereal plush dolls and anything you can imagine now and I think it's due to the popularity of the Spongebob Squarepants movie series that Spongebob Squarepants has become more huge and will continue to be popular as the years go by and make Nickelodeon huge than ever. I think once the 12th Season of Spongebob Squarepants starts in 2019 Spongebob Squarepants will attract a new impressive fanbase also due to the release of the third Spongebob Squarepants movie that also will debut in theaters and what I can predict is that after the 12th season of the show wraps up Nickelodeon will also plan a spin-off show for Spongebob Squarepants and many more seasons will be aired. So due to this announcement I sense an amazing new world for Spongebob Squarepants with more fun episodes that will keep people laughing for years to come
