View Full Version : Zack and Leslie would've made a fantastic couple on "SBTB: The College Years"

I honestly believe that Zack and Leslie would've ended up together eventually, had Kelly not arrived at Cal U (California University for short). I could imagine Leslie developing a growing infatuation with Zack, despite having to deal with his shenanigans and eccentricities on a regular basis; at the same time, Zack would mature as an adult and stop reliving--and reminiscing about--the past (translation: his four years at Bayside)...they'd both develop respect for each other as time progressed. Had they remained (and matured as) a couple, Zack and Leslie would've tied the knot shortly after graduating from Cal U in the summer of '97; it would've been interesting to see Zack's parents interact with Leslie's parents while expressing their opinions and concerns about their (Zack and Leslie's) budding relationship.

I'd like to hear your opinions on this topic...feel free to drop me a line anytime. Enjoy your evening!

Hmmmmmm I don't know. I think Zack and Kelly were just a couple you couldn't break up, sure they seen other people at Bayside but they were the ultimate couple kind of like Cory and Topanga. Leslie wouldn't stand a chance against Kelly in his heart.

It would have made sense considering Leslie's dad being the kind of guy that he was. What did he do? He had something to do with the college the kids went to, but I am not sure what exactly.

God bless you always!!!

I believe Walter Burke, Leslie's father, was a businessman who even had a building--Burke Hall--named after him on campus (the kids attended the fictional "California University," located in the Bay Area near San Francisco)...it's been a really long time since I've seen the episode, entitled "The Homecoming," so my memory isn't terrific. I do, however, remember his catchphrase vividly, which he uttered throughout most of the episode: "I'll make a call."

The late Edward Winter, best known for his recurring role as Colonel Sam Flagg on the long-running sitcom "M*A*S*H," guest-starred as Leslie's father; actress-singer Gloria Loring (best known for performing the theme song to "The Facts Of Life"; she's also the mother of singer Robin Thicke [the late Alan Thicke was his father]) played Leslie's mom, Edith.

Thanks for commenting, Holly! May God bless you as well! Enjoy your evening!

Since the day I saw the pilot of SBTB: College Years. I too wanted Leslie and Zack to get together. Well then episode 2 happens and Kelly ruins any storylines for it. But I was the guy that wanted the Danielle character to stay as well.

You and me both, KRW! I also had a fondness for Essence Atkins' character, Danielle Marks, in the pilot episode; in fact, she was one of the few bright spots in the pilot (along with Anne Tremko as Leslie)...it's unfortunate that Atkins was given the boot after the pilot episode in order for Tiffani-Amber Thiessen to return to the "SBTB" franchise as Zack's high school sweetheart, Kelly Kapowski. Too bad...Atkins would've been fantastic as Danielle; perhaps she and Screech would've become an item had "The College Years" lasted longer and Tiffani hadn't agreed to reprise the role of Kelly once again.

I heard (https://web.archive.org/web/20180312223616/http://www.savedbythebellreviewed.com/2016/01/27/saved-by-the-bell-the-college-years-reviewed) that Leslie was originally going to be Zack (https://thoughtcatalog.com/rob-fee/2013/11/ranking-saved-by-the-bells-zack-morris-love-interests/)'s love interest (https://screenrant.com/saved-by-bell-who-zack-should-have-ended-up-with-not-kelly/) on The College Years (https://averyspecialpodcast.com/tagged/saved%20by%20the%20bell%20the%20college%20years). But when the deal was made to bring Tiffani-Amber Thiessen back as Kelly (in the original pilot (https://web.archive.org/web/20170111020123/http://www.savedbythebellreviewed.com/2015/09/18/the-college-years-episode-1-pilot/), the "third girl" is played by Essence Atkins), the producers had no clear idea of what to do with Leslie's character.
