I will begin by saying that I had heard that for the movie, "The Wizard Of Oz" every then-living midget in the world was recruited to play as a "munchkin" in the movie.

However what sounds strange about that is that I did not see any black or Chinese "munchkins" in The Wizard of Oz And, there could NOT have been only white midgets back then. Therefore it is not likely that every midget in the world was recruited for that movie. It seems that there would have been even more midgets than there were in the film. All the midgets who played munchkins could not have been all the midgets that existed. Also I think that some of them were dwarfs rather than midgets .

And it seems odd that every midget was capable of singing and dancing.

Studio publicity departments back then exaggerated from time to time.

The Munchkins were played by the Singer Midgets . The Singer Midgets were were not so named because they could sing, but because they were organized and managed by Viennese -- born impresario Leo Singer ( 1877 -- 1951 ) . If you're in or near Hollywood, the Munchkins were awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6915 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California .
