View Full Version : My story.
Kay Scarpetta 05-06-2002, 10:56 AM Ok. My mom and I get in the car @ 3 to go pick up Elizabeth and her mother. Well we pick them up and Elizabeth is spazzing because she is obsessed. HAHA Elizabeth. I am actually calm because I am not obsessed. I am going to meet Lisa the PERSON, not Blair. Anyways we just sit in the car for an hour and a half or something, we get into Connecticut because thats where this thing was, it was just hosted by the Landmark people. Anyways we get there at 5. We see a silver SUV with 3 bikes on the back. We pull up and it has a Van Nuys, CA cardealership thingy around the CA plate. Bingo Baby! I started screaming and my MOM PARKS NEXT TO THE CAR I'm like omg...omg..ok. Omg...omg...ok. But then I noticed there was a "NO PARKING" sign on that spot and I'm like OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO but so anyways we go park somewhere else. Then as we are walking in, we go by her car. I stop and get a photo opp. with Elizabeth, and I touched Tucker's bike tire which made me extremely happy. Ahem. So then we walk in, and there is all these security people EVERYWHERE! OMG it was unbearable. It was heavy. I mean what are the gonna do, try and kill her?! Meanwhile I saw Steve and Tucker setting up books. I almost fainted cuz omg...Tucker looked at me. Anyways we go in, get seats in the third row, and get settled. I went to the bathroom to kinda ya know, "scope out" things, and I see Steve talking to these big church people setting up tables. I walk by Tucker's table and he looked at me again!!!!!! OMG...so we go back into the auditorium and sat down, and talked to the 15 yr old girl in the second row who we became friends with. Well then Lisa comes out. That girl, Christine, who is from NY and MET Lisa before, sits right behind Tucker. There was one seat open next to her, so while everyone was raising their hands and singing and not noticing that I wasn't singing, I'm like "Ok, you know what, the hell with this." I jumped over to the one seat and sat down next to Christine. RIGHT BEHIND LISA. So then Elizabeth joins me while these Baptist people are singing their songs and we sit in the same seat together. Then I started to sing just for the fun of it, then it turns into like "Wow, I'm singing, I'm prasing God, ok how cool is this"...oh yeah. Ok. Anyways I put my hand on the back of Lisa's chair with Elizabeth then Steve glances back at us and smirks so I'm like "ELIZABETH GET YOUR HAND OFF HER CHAIR!" LOL  and so then she goes up to speak after more singing. She explained to us that the reason we sing and all is because to prasie God, etc. ...Anywho, her speaking. I have to laugh. It was ALL staged. These Baptist people wanted her to talk about Jesus, not FOL. So when she took questions, I looked over on the side and it said "Go to Question 4" so they must have picked these random Church people to ask her questions, [this whole place was people from Landmark Baptist Church] and before this started she was probably stashed away in a room recieving directions. Anyways you know her. She would have LOVED to talk about FOL and answer all the kids questions, and have people sing the FOL theme song, but these people from the church were here to see Lisa Whelchel, the Preacher, instead of Lisa Whelchel, the Person. I would have liked to see her out of a..."Godly" atmosphere. So anyways you could tell it was staged because each person asked questions that kept her going on and on and on lol. And I kept taking 893247 pictures of her speaking and Steve and the kids kept looking back and chuckling at me. So anyways. She asked everyone to bow their heads while she said a prayer. So anyways then we leave, get outside and into the line. My mom said if it wasn't a school night we could have gotten at the end and talked for a while with her, because you know, she might have gotten her family over there and stuff but we got into the middle of the line. Even know I am not in school today because I feel sick to my stomach. Anyways we saw Tucker selling the MomTime stuff so I took my camera and took a picture through the people, then went back to looking straight ahead right away. He kinda looked over because he saw the flash, and you can see a thin smile on his face and he's probably thinking "Ok, why is this weird girl taking a picture of me" but -sigh- if he only knew. Then Lisa had to use the bathroom so we went outside the door standing next to these big guards and waiting for her to come out and Liz tries to get a picture but misses LOL so we go back in line. I was so mad because Christine got to stay until the end and probably got to talk to her and her kids but my mom wouldn't stay. So anyways Elizabeth gets to the line. She starts spazzing and Lisa is hysterical. Steve is behind Lisa and he is laughing too. I mean, Lisa enjoyed us. You could tell. It was probably because we were the only FACTS OF LIFE fans there! LOL I mean she must get sick of these fans always preaching to her. We spent a kinda long time with her lol. So anyways Elizabeth gets her stuff signed, and gets a picture with Lisa and moves to the side with her mom. MY turn. move up, and my mom is with me, and Lisa says "Hi!" and shy-ly I said "Hi" back. And so I let my mother introduce herself...ya know she just kept it basic, like "Hi, I'm Karli's mom, I've been a fan of the show, blah blah" and Lisa loved her lol. So then she looks at me and says "Who can I make these out to?" And I said "Karly. K-a-r-l-y" I spelt it out because she has signed things for me before for K-a-r-l-i and I didn't want her to get it confused lol. I think she kinda knew I was the same person....people have told her about me lol. So anyways she takes TFOLAOLMFTM [her book LOL] and signs it "Karli- Proverbs 3:5-6- Lisa Whelchel" which by coincidence happens to be my favorite verse..lol..anyways then she takes my picture of her which was from 1983 and signs it "Karly- Blessings! Lisa Whelchel" then my album. She starts cracking up at the sight of that and Steve laughing says "WHERE did you find that?" And Lisa goes "Yeah! Where? My kids have the cassette but not the album!" And I told her it was either from Ebay or a Christian store and her and Steve got a kick out of it you know, that I had it and stuff. And so she signed it "Karly- Blessings! Lisa Whelchel" then my mom just asked her to sign a program that said "An Evening With Lisa Whelchel" for my sister who was not there. She wrote "Jenny- Jesus Loves You Everyday! Lisa Whelchel" Anyways she says to me "Where are you from?" And I said "Oh, Springfield!" and she said "Oh! You know Elizabeth?" And Elizabeth pipes up and says "Yes we came together! And my grandparents hung out with her grandparents and my aunt taught her 4th grade and our moms knew eachother since they were little and-" then Steve is hysterical and looks at my mom and says "Is she going to hyperventalate?" And everyone starts laughing. Then Lisa looks at my mom and says "You two must be very devoted moms to bring them here tonight" and I'm thinking "Ah hah. With or without them I was going to get here somehow." but I just smiled. And then I said "Hey Lisa, I have the same birthday as you too" And she looks up with this bright expression on her face and says "Really?! WOW! Guess who else shares our birthday! Patrick Henry!" Then for a minute I said "Uh...who?" and then it donged on me and I'm like "OH! When you were in Philidelphia!" and Steve said "Yup! He told us himself" and everyone laughs. I told her I followed her journal everyday too and she liked that. Then I gave her my gift that you will have to wait and see because I took a pic of it. It had to do with Texas and at first I didn't want to give it to her but she said "Oh my goodness! It's beautiful! You know Texas is in my heart" and she smiled at me. So anyways then Steve looks at me and said "Would you like a picture?" so he moves and Lisa puts her arm around me and my mom takes it. Then she says "Hey Elizabeth, you want to get in this one?" So Liz gets on the other side of her and the 2 moms take the picture. Then, the line was getting inpatient and I knew. It was time to depart :( so anyways, my mom takes the stuff and I start to walk away but then I said "Wait a minute mom" and they stop so I go over to Lisa who is chatting with Steve and I motioned for her to lean close to me and I whispered something in her ear which is um...personal so I'm not going to say it here. Anyways in the parking lot I grabbed a picture of her plate lol. The in the car I fell alseep.
The Glorious, Glorious, GLORIOUS End.

OMG yes Karli and Elizabeth, I think that's you!!!!!!!!
Today's Entry
May 14, 2002
I spoke Sunday evening in Putnam, Connecticut. The church, Landmark Baptist, is actually located in Webster, Massachusetts but they needed a bigger space to hold the event so they rented a school in Putnam. It was a great evening. The Pastor, Fred, and his wife, Lisa, took great care of us. They immediately won the kids’ hearts when we entered the green room area and they had a table set with fruit, cookies, and a basket of candy bars.
I could tell we were someplace special as soon as the worship band started up. The music was top-notch and the whole crowd was singing along. The praise was so strong that I felt the need to explain to any visitors what it was they had just experienced. While singing I remember thinking, “I bet there are a lot of people here tonight who wonder why we just spent twenty minutes singing songs, why we raised our hands, and is God so insecure that He needs to hear us tell him how much we love Him and how great He is over and over again.”
I explained that one of the reasons we tell God how much we love Him is because He does enjoy hearing it from us. It reminds me of that joke about the wife who asked her husband if he loved her. He shot back, “I told you I loved you when we got married and I’ll let you know if I change my mind.” Sure, God knows that we love Him, but our praise is still music to His ears.
One of the reasons why I like to sing songs about how good and strong God is, is not because He needs His ego stroked, but because I need to remind myself of these truths. When my problems seem overwhelming it’s good to rehearse His mighty overcoming works. When I’m having a bad day, it lifts me up to sing about His goodness.
And there is one other reason why we sing praise songs to the Lord. The Bible says that He inhabits the praises of His people. That means when we worship Him, He comes to join us and He fills us up. I knew that the visitors would understand this because the presence of God was perceptible to all around.
My favorite part of the evening was after I spoke when I got to meet and talk to so many people at my book table. I remember three girls in particular. I met two young girls who met each other online at a Facts of Life bulletin board site. They soon discovered that they lived in the same city and their parents even knew each other. Their sweet moms drove them both up to meet me and I’m so thankful that they did.
I recognized another young lady in the crowd, but I couldn’t remember where I had met her. She came to the book table later and reminded me that she had come to hear me speak at the Catholic Church in Glen Falls, NY. This beautiful young lady, Christine, came bearing gifts for all of us. She brought the kids some extremely cool science experiments, Steve got a new t-shirt and I got an Americana pillow to go on my bed at home. She has no idea how much we came to appreciate these gifts.
When we got back to the motorhome, a little after ten o’clock, we discovered that we had locked ourselves out. We still don’t know what happened. Steve locked the deadbolt from the outside, walked straight to the car, and tossed the keys in the empty ashtray. How they disappeared from there is still a mystery.
Nonetheless, we were stuck with no way to get in, and we were zonked. Minutes earlier, on the drive home, I had mentioned to Steve that all I wanted to do was walk straight into the RV, kick off my shoes, and hop into bed. That wouldn’t end up happening for another three hours.
We called AAA and waited around for an hour until they showed up. When they did, the guy informed us that he had the tools to get into car doors that were locked but not deadbolts on motorhome doors. So, we called an official locksmith who told us that he could come out tonight for $200 or tomorrow for $125 and AAA would cover half the costs.
Obviously, we chose the second option and set out looking for a place to stay the night. We stopped at the gas station to pick up some toothbrushes before finding a “no name” inn and checking in for the night. All we had to sleep in were our church clothes. Except for me, I had the new shirt that Christina, the sweet girl who came to the church tonight, gave Steve. And Clancy, who always sleeps with her special pillow, hugged the new pillow Christina gave me. We were both wishing Christina had left her address so we could write her a thank you note that very night to tell her how much we appreciated her gifts.
We finally got to bed around 1:30, woke up the next morning, headed back to the RV Park and called the locksmith. I took the kids to get breakfast and to do some shopping while Steve waited by the side of the road for 2 ˝ hours until the locksmith arrived. Understandably, by the time we finally got inside our home, Steve was fit to be tied. It didn’t help that as soon as he was able to get on his computer he discovered that he had forgotten to save the document he was working on and I had accidentally thrown away the hard copy he had printed out. I sent Haven to retrieve the garbage out of the dumpster, we rummaged through the bag and found the piece of paper soaked by Mountain Dew. I was blow-drying the paper when Steve discovered the lost document was simply minimized at the bottom of his computer screen.
A few minutes later I was talking on the phone when I heard a loud thud. Steve had finally hit the wall – literally. Shocked, I turned around and asked, “Did you just hit something?” I hurriedly got off the phone to help calm Steve down as he vented his frustration over one more thing that had gone wrong. Believe it or not, I was thankful to see him erupt a little. First of all, it made me feel better about the times I have blown it. But more importantly, it made me appreciate how even-tempered he normally is.
We decided that after having been up so late the night before, we could probably all use a nap. When we woke up we decided to give the Pastor Fred, and his wife, Lisa, a call to see if they would like to join us for dinner. After such a hard day, it was refreshing to be with a sister and brother in the Lord. That’s one of the things that I love about being a part of the family of God. We may have only met last night but we felt like we had been friends forever – and we will.
:D :D :D Lucky people, but who was the third girl?
Yeah, that has to be y'all Karli and Elizabeth. Wow, that is so cool. TJ, your site is semi-famous as well;)

Are you saying something about my mother? If you are, well then, I'll personally come out to Washington or wherever it is you live and sock you one. And if you're not, and I'm just not getting some kind of inside joke or something (which could very easily be the case), then have a nice day. :)

NO LOL. It's a kinda inside joke between us about my mother and Lisa which has absolutely nothing to do with your mother lol.
ABlairican Pie 05-14-2002, 09:14 PM What I MEANT to say was, who kicks butt harder, Creed or Nickelback? Let's take a poll.

Okaley, dokely. Thanks for clearing that up. Well, then, Tad, have an amazingly wonderful, special day! ;)

Shelley 05-20-2002, 04:08 AM That's wonderful. I wish I could meet her someday.
ABlairican Pie 08-11-2002, 05:37 PM Looking over this thread from a couple months back, I'm sure it would be interesting to have a sort of "Where are they now?" sort of thing about how meeting Lisa was the high point of the whole year, how meeting Lisa perked up their lives, fun anecdotes, things she taught us, etc. And make a sort of keepsake kind of thing for Lisa.
It's fun and interesting to look back.

niffty! I remember reading this back in May...thanksies!
Kay Scarpetta 08-11-2002, 09:16 PM Whoooooooo brought this up again
ABlairican Pie 08-11-2002, 09:36 PM I have no idea.
Jinny Girl 08-13-2002, 09:19 PM meeting her was by far quite embarrasing. my mother is embarrasing. we were rushed tho, there was a HUGE line behind us. Tuckers haircut annys me. Im sure its different now but still... HER KIDS ARE MIDGEEEEEETS. i dunno how old they were tho. she talked about spanking tho and my mother got reaaaaal mad. i think she should... STOP sharing her opinion before she runs into another nut like my mom who actually hits people she says she will
ABlairican Pie 08-13-2002, 10:04 PM I see your point there, I think Lisa should concentrate on making herself just a BIT more sophisticated than some sophisticated stay at home mommy hausfrau who drools over discussions os spankings. She's gotta realize that, even though she's older, she's still BLAIR in the minds of most people, NOT June Cleaver. And most kids like to remember her as forever young and free...and cool.
And Lisa, while you're at it, there's a Rob Zombie album out there with your name on it.:D
ABlairican Pie 08-13-2002, 10:07 PM Let me back up, I caught a mistake back there, I meant to say an
UNsophisticated stay-at-home suburban soccer mommy hausfrau.
You get the picture.
