View Full Version : Season 5 Has Been Released to Amazon UK, Not The USA
NCRavensFan86 05-13-2017, 11:23 PM I saw a couple postings on this board as well as on Facebook that Season 5 was released to the UK Friday Evening.
I live in Florida so of course I can't watch UM on Amazon UK even though I certainly tried, I got the "your out of geographic area/viewing unavailable disclaimer."
Good news though!!! if you go to the Amazon UK website and look up "UM Robert Stack Episodes Season 5" all of the episodes and case names pop up.
I spent some time comparing the Amazon episode list with the official UM Wiki list.
The episode count for Season 5 will be 24 Episodes. (The Thanksgiving Eve "Telecenter" Special will not be seen) but the Becky Terry and Elizabeth Ortiz cases that first aired on that date will be.
Here are some Case Names that I had trouble matching up with the UM Wiki Episode Guide, see if you can help me solve a mystery.
Cop Assault,
Surprise Sister,
Pigtail Fugitive,
Musician Sings the Blues.
I SINCERELY hope that Filmrise will release this series by Monday Night to the USA. After that happens I should have a episode guide up within 2 to 3 days.
JannTosh 05-13-2017, 11:44 PM Went through the list and the Jeffrey Macdonald and Luis Diaz episodes are missing! Noooooo!

Musician Sings the Blues is Tony Miller. Though it looks like it is just the update.

Not to discount your post because I too want access to as much as possible. I would skip the Jeff McDonald segment anyway. One of the most accessible segments in history and he is still getting public support in other media outlets. Was he just in people magazine? His segment even came on tv here where I'm at recently.
I can't believe how great amazon/filmrise has been.
justins5256 05-14-2017, 09:19 AM Technically, MacDonald aired as part of the Final Appeal TV series which was on for 6 weeks coinciding with the premiere of season 5.

Was the MacDonald case ever aired on network UM proper? The Wiki says it was on Final Appeal first. I could've sworn it was on Lifetime, though.
If they end up including the Lifetime episodes (which I'm not so sure about), I imagine it'd be there, and maybe a few currently missing ones like Orange Socks.

Yeah, MacDonald was shown on Final Appeal. Strangely, it was shown on Lifetime, but was edited in such a way that it looked just like a standard UM episode. It wasn't hard to accomplish as the FA episodes were formatted the same, used the same music, reenactments, Stack voiceovers, etc.
hostedbyrobertstack 05-14-2017, 09:32 AM That's crazy....I know they always seem to have been released on Friday nights (as far as I remember), so I wonder if it was supposed to be simultaneously uploaded to the USA Amazon, but didn't. Anyways, hopefully Monday...cannot wait another week until Friday, especially if it's already done and ready to be loaded.
alistaircranium 05-14-2017, 09:34 AM Lucky. Still nothing in Canada!
Guardian 05-14-2017, 12:35 PM Just along these lines: I follow the Unsolved Mysteries page on Facebook. The official one linked to unsolved.com. Given what they have stated in the past with Amazon posting the seasons, it sounds like they don't know exactly when they will be posted. Apparently that is left strictly up to Amazon.
But as far as the "Final Appeal" series, I did message Unsolved Mysteries asking about it. Unfortunately, they said there are no plans to release it or "The Story Behind the Story" (another similar series produced by the same folks).
I know that "Story Behind the Story" seems to be all but forgotten about. This is unfortunate because it was actually an extremely interesting show. It profiled historical events and focused on parts of the story that were not generally as well known as the main story. Examples would be Abraham Zapruder and how he came to film JFK's assassination, the plane that crashed into the Empire State Building in 1945, the disastrous D-day training operation "Exercise Tiger", etc. For those that don't remember, I can easily say that most UM fans would enjoy this show as it was produced in a similar format and had a lot of good info on the stories profiled.
Anyway, my hope is that all of these will be released eventually. Final appeal of course makes the most sense and would be easier to do as it basically was filmed in the same format as Unsolved Mysteries was.
I would suggest anyone who wants to see these series as well, just message UM through Facebook. They are very good about responding to questions like this. So the page is monitored and I feel they do listen to this kind of thing. Enough people chiming in asking might cause them to release the other series.
So write in and ask for "Final Appeal" and "The Story Behind the Story" to be released. It can't hurt to try and would only take a couple of minutes of time.

NCRavensFan86 05-16-2017, 12:06 AM Still not in USA. WTF is up with the delay.
I work the 3-11 shift at my job, and I got up extra early this morning thinking that someone at Filmrise would realize they forgot to send Season 5 to Amazon USA. I thought it would be just a matter of someone clicking a couple of links on a PC and Season 5 would be uploaded by 10 AM-Monday.
And now here it is Tuesday Morning and still nothing!!!!
However, I remember when Season 3 was released and it was missing an episode. It took Filmrise a WHOLE STINKING WEEK to upload the missing episode.
So if the Season 3 error is the same time frame as the Season 5 error, then it looks S5 won't get released until Friday evening.
At this rate if Season 6 gets released before the 4th of July, I will jump up and down like a kangaroo.

A couple of things. First, it's an assumption (and possibly an inaccurate one) to think that it is a mistake that it was posted to the UK on Friday and not the US. It could have been a deliberate thing.
Second, even if it is as simple as clicking a couple of links on a PC (it might or might not be depending on their architecture), that doesn't mean that they can do it anytime that they want to. I work in IT and deal with software deployment on a regular basis. While the uploading of content like this is fairly small as far as changes go, it would still need to wait for a dedicated release window to be promoted. I've worked for companies that had release windows as frequently as daily and as infrequently as monthly. Almost any company can do a critical release if something is completely down, but Amazon isn't likely to do a critical release for something like this. It's unfortunate that we didn't get season 5 yet. However, even if it was a mistake, our misfortune probably wouldn't warrant a critical release.
Todd Mueller 05-16-2017, 12:07 PM However, I remember when Season 3 was released and it was missing an episode. It took Filmrise a WHOLE STINKING WEEK to upload the missing episode.
To be fair, the issue with the missing episode was on Amazon's part and not FilmRise. I bet season 5 has been sent to Amazon but they haven't activated it yet.
sdb4884 05-18-2017, 10:00 PM Anyone who has watched season 5 yet? I feel a little underwhelmed by it, season 4 was certainly the best so far IMO.

I haven't. I currently don't pay for an unlimited through the provider I use to mask my IP, so I can only do so much browsing under a UK IP address and I didn't want burn through all of that watching UM if it'll be available in the US soon. Plus, to be able to watch with a UK IP, I'd have to watch through my computer and I don't like to do that because it takes away time with my son to be glued to the computer screen. If it's on the TV through the Roku box then I can play with him while watching.
hostedbyrobertstack 05-19-2017, 10:07 AM At this point with how long it has taken to simply upload to Amazon, I think they will need to release season 5+6 simultaneously...one can only wish.

It would be a nice gesture of customer service if we received Season 5 & 6 at the same time assuming that time is early next week at the latest!!! However, I think Amazon is to blame for the current delay. I bet Filmrise already has 25% of Season 6 done and I will bet Season 6 will be released just 2 weeks after Season 5, assuming Season 5 arrives by Monday at the latest!!!!!
Hasho 05-20-2017, 04:33 PM Season 5 is released in Europe, but I am still watching season 2 :D
bluejazz87 05-21-2017, 11:33 PM Isn't this doing well on Amazon Prime? Why would you delay the release of season 5 in your biggest region? Seems pretty ****ing stupid.
Guardian 05-21-2017, 11:47 PM I gotta say, I was pretty p*ssed last week with no season five and also no new episode of Disappeared. This weekend, still no season five, but at least Disappeared was on with a new episode.
unsolvedfan4life 05-22-2017, 07:24 AM Amazon does not even advertise UM as one of the new releases you have to look for it which is crazy sine it is 5 star reviewed and surely getting a lot of views

I swear I have to find the Robert Stack version through the Dennis Farina version. I feel like I really have to dig to find it.
GoldenGirlsFan92 05-22-2017, 09:17 PM I want Season 5 ASAP!!! It's already dang near June!!! Let's go Anszon! Please hurry.

Far Off Promise 05-22-2017, 09:30 PM I keep checking.. it's still not there.
I'm getting work done at work. This has to stop! Release the kraken or the fifth season!
hostedbyrobertstack 05-22-2017, 09:35 PM I just wrote on their facebook today asking that since season 5 is taking so long, will season 6 be out in a week or two after that? Their reply was that season 6 is still in editing...so, who knows, by the time 5 is released, it could be just a week or two.
UMfan30 05-23-2017, 01:42 AM Ive been an Amazon Prime customer for several years. If I hadnt been scrolling through the Farina versions I wouldnt have been aware that season 1/2 of the Stack episodes had been released. Unsolved Mysteries is a classic show that lasted year after year and im not just saying that because Im a fan. Its just my assumption but it seems that Amazon puts TV shows and Movies at the top of the list of options based on how much money they will make if people watch them and not based on quality or customer satisfaction. Example: As im scrolling through "top rated tv" right now the first show that appears is The Sopranos (obviously) followed by "Ru Pauls Drag Race" in the third slot. You have to scroll further down the list to find other TV shows such as "Sex and the City" "Downton Abbey" "Suits" etc. Nothing against the Ru Paul show but I find it difficult to believe that show is rated higher than sex and the city etc. Ive noticed this occurs with movies as well. Regarding "new release" movies it seems the bigger the movie the less time it spends in the "new release" section. Ive noticed this with several big movies recently. They appear on the list for a short time and then are gone. You have to search for them if you want to watch them. Yet, it seems movies you have never heard of remain on the list for weeks or months. Having just scrolled through the "new release" movie section it really is just a bunch if cheaply made movie most people have never heard of or care about. My guess would be movies like this are promoted on Amazon to make a quick buck. It seems shows and movies are listed in an order to which Amazon will make the most money on. I dont wait for Amazon to inform me when a new season of Unsolved is released, Ive always had to look for it and thats a shame in my opinion. Frankly, the only reason I have kept my Amazon Prime membership is because of the UM stack episodes being released.

RuPaul's Drag Race is on season 9 currently so yes - it's pretty darn popular. It has an active subreddit and the participants tend to be visible/active on social media as well. If you have to scroll down more to find things you like, just means the things you like aren't as popular at the moment.
The new release section is stuff that has been added to Prime recently. So it's a mix of recent movies/tv shows as well as older classic stuff. The options you'll see on any of the Prime watching apps is going to be related to what you've actually watched on Amazon. If you like superhero films, you'll see Iron Man. If you like Bond, you'll see Spectre, etc. If you've only been watching UM, of course you'll see movies and tv that are similar - mysteries, low-budget, etc. as that is what Amazon thinks you want to watch.
I suggest utilizing your watchlist and adding things as you see them so you can easily find them later when you feel like watching them. Amazon's suggestions go by what you actually watch/add to your watchlist instead of a rating system like Netflix.
FWIW, Netflix also moves around their new release/added lists a bunch - I've had to search for things I knew were just added that I wanted to watch that they didn't even show me in the list.

All the time I keep finding out just how popular Drag Race is... I had no idea until this year that it is actually really huge.

So you Canucks had to wait a few months after us to see any seasons and now you have season five and the US does not?
Enjoy it! Hopefully will get it soon here as well.

Jenna_Nicole105 05-24-2017, 10:00 PM Someone had a live chat with an Amazon customer service representative, was a person in a Facebook group I'm a member of.
They were told it had something to do with "license restrictions" but that doesn't make any sense if other countries have it, guessing it's just a token response because the rep honestly has no clue about the real reason.

I think it makes sense. I would think every country would have different contracts/arrangements/etc.

...but I feel for those of you who are waiting...
Finishing up season 4 soon, so I'll be feeling the pain.
Lieutenant Bookman 05-26-2017, 01:51 PM Knowing that the first four seasons were coming out around the first week of the month, I was watching season 4 at a pace that assumed season 5 would be released at the beginning of May. So I've had about 3 weeks of pain now. I won't make that mistake again
NCRavensFan86 05-26-2017, 02:40 PM I checked the Unsolved.com website (the official Unsolved Mysteries website) and they have removed the statement stating that "Season 5 will be released in the second or third week of May."
The case of the missing season continues..........
michaeld998 05-26-2017, 09:07 PM Emailed the CEO of Filmrise. Here's what he had to say.

Season 5 is being processed in the U.S. by Amazon - should go live any day.
Best,
