For the late 1970's period 1977 to 79, I thought about including one or two hits from Boston and a few from Foreigner, but I've always considered those groups as more FM/album rock bands and less AM top 40, that's why Boston and Foreigner aren't on the lists.

Not sure if these were hits, but they were very memorable for me in 1977:

Love Gun --by KISS.
Closer To the Heart --by Rush.
Godzilla --by Blue Oyster Cult.
Lights Out --by UFO.
Cat Scratch Fever --by Ted Nugent.
Cherry Baby --by Starz.

Love Gun is a killer song, it charted but only made it to #61 on Billboard.

Cat Scratch Fever made it to #30 and was Nugent's only top 40 hit of the 70's.

Cherry Baby made it to #33 and is also Starz only top 40 hit.
