In the 80's there was a cartoon show named BraveStarr that featured cowboys in a wild west setting in outer space and was one of the most popular 80's cartoons and there was even a line of action figures based on BraveStarr as well. Back in the 80's it seemed that there were a lot of cartoons with interesting settings and the idea of cowboys in outer space seemed like a fun idea when BraveStarr was created

Yeah it was a pretty neat show, for some reason I don't know how in '87-'88 space cartoon westerns were popular out of the blue.
There were other two futuristic/western cartoons that came around the time Adventures Of The Galaxy Rangers and Saber Rider & The Star Sheriff's, each show had their good and bad aspects but one thing they all had in common was a kickin' theme song.

Another thing I discovered about BraveStarr was that it was also done by Filmation and created by the same guy who also created He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe and She-Ra Princess Of Power. It's so shocking that Filmation was a top animation company of the 80's and BraveStarr is one of the best cartoons of that company

Yeah I think Bravestarr tried to cater more the older 9-11 year olds that had outgrown watching He-Man, in fact in Bravestarr there was even an episode in which a small child gets adicted to some type of drug called "spin" and even dies at the episodes end.

Short lived series and toyline. Mainly remembered for the drug episode. It wasnt created by the guys that created He Man and She Ra either, you are thinking of Lou Scheimer, he just owned Filmation. This was a co-production between filmation and an independent animation studio from Japan.

With Filmation's biggest success, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, drawing to a close they looked to the future and bet the company's future on BRAVESTARR, an original property they brought to MATTEL.
But MATTEL had their own ideas for how BRAVESTARR should look and function and when it should release with a betrayal that may have doomed the whole line.
This is the story of BRAVESTARR and the downfall of FILMATION.
