At least earlier on she was there essentially as an audience point-of-view character. She was the normal person around these goofy geeks. And even then, the other three outside of Sheldon normalized over the years. Aside from some comic book references, they dropped the whole nerd angle, anyway.

Once Penny became "attainable" to Leonard it was inevitable. She needed to be a "real-world" counter-balance to the guys insular world who was an object of desire for them that they could never get as a girlfriend.

Of course being a TV series she dates and marries Leonard who short of him being extremely wealthy stretches credibility to me but OK. Now that Penny is aware of most of the "geek" culture she is being drawn at least partially into their world. I remember her even saying so a few times.

Once they put Penny with Leonard, it wasn't such a stretch on credibility to put Bernadette with Howard although I just could not see either pairing being all that realistic. I don't mind suspending disbelief on the whole concept of sitcoms but the whole sitcom men always have hot wives or girlfriends is so old.

Amy and Sheldon however they got perfect.

I think the whole show has run its course

Wasn't the original premise that they were nerds and outcasts? I'm not a follower of the show, but I believe they are all wealthy and have hot girlfriends; how exactly are they nerds anymore?

I think they are just keeping it around until they can find something else. Some of the cast even seem bored, but it has to be tough to walk away from how much they are making. Jim Parsons especially seems to have checked-out at times.

They signed for two years so at least they have time to build to a finale rather than everyone suddenly moving away and changing careers, getting married and all the usual tired endings.

The fact that some episodes are as little as 19 minutes now really makes it seem to be more of a skit than a full show, plus as mentioned they seem to be splitting episodes between the characters especially Howard and Bernadette seem to be on their own with the baby more and more. I wonder if they would do a spin-off with them or Raj when the show ends.

I sincerely hope that they don't do a spinoff with the characters after the show ends. The "Young Sheldon" prequel series is okay, I guess. But when the finale happens, that needs to be the end for all of the characters.

I still like Penny. Even though she and the geeks have moved closer to each other's worlds in the past ten years, she clearly still is not a geek, and the others still clearly are.

And I don't think I'd like a Big Bang Theory without Penny.

Yeah, Penny is no longer interesting.

I can honestly say for me it is this season, Season 11, where the show jumped the shark. It should end after this year, but I guess there’s another year on the way. Ho hum. Kripke has gray hair now. That’s a sure sign the show is too long in the tooth.

I just noticed tonight how aged all of them look, especially Jim Parsons with his receding hairline. They're not hip young people anymore, they're on the brink of middle age and it's getting pretty late for them to settle down. It would be a good idea to make this the last season.

I believe Parsons wear a hairpiece and he has since the show came on the air. This issue came up years ago and his manager indicated Parsons started losing his hair at a very young age.
