snl has had many of its former cast members return to host over the tears ther are sone like chevy chase dana carvey chris rock ect who its no surprise that they have come vack but ther have been a few alumni who even though i liked them as cast members i just never thought that they would host the best example thar i can give is bill jader one of my all time fave cast membrs who i never in a nillion years thought would host are there any former snl cast members who suprised you by returning to host?

Norm MacDonald - after he got fired and the way it went down, then he comes back to host a few months later - even he said it was crazy.

Julia Louis Dreyfus - it really took a while for her career to go somewhere; when she was on SNL she was quirky and funny, but who would've that she'd turn that into the career she has had?

Molly Shannon - after she left SNL she really didn't have a whole lot of success, a couple of iffy movies and failed sitcom appearances? but she came back to host in May of 2007

Sara Silverman - her tenure on SNL was short and limited as a background character in most skits and then the writers' strike cut things short; I liked her on the show, it was long before she went really overboard with the crudeness and it was surprising when she returned to host in 2014 (I though she would still be bitter over the crappy treatment she received on the show)

I started watching SNL when she was on when my family would go visit friends on Saturday night and the kids would go downstairs to watch tv. The cast and the one that followed gets flack but there were some great acts. Remember Danitra Vance who was on 1985-1986? Sadly her career went nowhere after that and she returned to her old area, which ironically was across the street where I attended junior high. She died of cancer with her partner by her side. I never knew she lived so close or that she wasn't successful.

Actually I was surprised Chase returned because I heard he was heard to work with, which is why he left after the first season.
