Once upon a time there two shows that were set in a hospital with ensemble casts that mixed up medical plotlines with soapy elements. Both came out within a day of one another (Chicago Hope on CBS and ER on NBC) in September 1994, yet ER instantly became the #2 show in the country (becoming #1 the following year) while Chicago Hope just remained a Top 20 show.
