His episode-opening bit of fiddling with his sunglasses while making a quip, leading into the show's propulsive theme song by the Who, became a signature bit even for people who'd never seen the show. But CSI left the airwaves in 2012—an eternity in entertainment years. What's Caruso been up to ever since, and why haven't we seen him on TV or movie screens lately?

I've been wondering lately if David Caruso simply "retired" (https://www.tvovermind.com/whatever-happened-to-david-caruso/) after CSI: Miami went off the air like his old NYPD Blue co-star Dennis Franz or Hollywood blackballed him. Even while working on NYPD Blue, he did develop a reputation as difficult (https://fabiosa.com/ctclb-rsvlk-auova-pbmts-phemk-nypd-blue-creator-talks-about-david-caruso-s-outrages-demands-and-the-real-reason-he-left-the-show/). He apparently, maintained his reputation (https://www.today.com/popculture/caruso-accused-being-difficult-demanding-wbna23681271) as a diva come CSI: Miami, and has often been described (https://www.datalounge.com/thread/6201206-david-caruso-said-to-be-becoming-unbearable-on-the-csi-set-according-to-msnbc) as moody and neurotic by others who worked on the show. Two people allegedly quit (https://www.cinemablend.com/television/2487568/csi-miami-why-the-major-cast-members-left) CSI: Miami because of him! Kim Delaney (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.gossip.celebrities/PlabG-772RI) and Rory Cochrane (https://www.csifiles.com/news/040804_01.shtml).
