In Beaver's Birthday he gets cards and $ from Aunt Martha, Aunt Mary and Uncle Ronny. June and Ward give him $10 and Wally $2. Later snooping June sees his thank you notes and doesn't understand why he's writing 6 when he got presents from 5. She doesn't know about Uncle Billy. Does this mean Beaver is writing a thank you note to Ward, June and Wally? 🤣🤣🤣

This episode is way out there. First of all it's Beaver's birthday give the kid a break. He gets $22 from everyone. Then Ward and June suggest he put his money in the bank. WHY? Don't they remember that back in Beaver's Big Contest Beaver won a $3500 sports car. Ward sold it and put the money in his bank account. Now he has a hefty amount. Beaver gets $10 from Uncle Billy and tells him to spend it on something he wants. Why is he so afraid to tell his parents he wants that gasoline engine race car. Buy it already and enjoy it's your birthday. Then Beaver misses lunch and gets spoken to. On his birthday? Let the kid alone. He lies about buying the racecar and gives himself a punishment to come home all week and not go anywhere. Huh? So he is punished on his birthday. No wonder Eddie was the main component in most of Season 6.

Isn't this the episode where they play the corny happy birthday music when he opens the presents?

I agree...so he bought something? Big deal. And June was always "discovering" something. In this episode she figures out Beaver wrote too many thank you notes...Oh, no...something is amiss! She also conveniently found that letter Wally wrote to Alma (or whatever her name was), and threw away (or so he thought). And they all saw him holding Julie Foster's hand in the park...OMG. Who is this girl who has my baby in her clutches? Ward, you have to talk to him about going steady! And wasn't she the first one to read Beaver's diary? Man, I'm gettin' down on June tonight!

I think parents were keen on saving money during this period because they lived through the Great Depression. I agree though that Beaver should have been able to spend his birthday money the way he wanted. You're only a kid once.

Yup June was a real Snoop. How about when she was going through their waste basket and found Wally's nose contraption? She was going through their drawers and found the locket Beaver won and the letter to Wally regarding Merchant Marines. As I recall she also found the fake letter Wally wrote to June from Ward to make Ward a hero. Oh yes and the fake letter you mentioned that Wally was going to send to Kitty about Frank Sinatra. I can't think of anything that June
missed. Imagine if she found something really embarrassing?

Wait I think Ward found the letter in Beaver's Hero. As she got older she got more snoopy. Probably had more time to snoop.

I don't know how she did it but even found Beaver's wet jeans under the sink in Beaver Becomes a Hero.

She also found the old suit the hobo left after taking a bath ("I don't think Beaver was entertaining Noel Coward"). She also sent that nude baby picture to Miss Landers. And, lied to Beaver by not wearing the ooh la la blouse (although she did apologize and had a good talk with him later.)

She's a real piece of work. We need somebody to come to her defense!

Speaking of that baby picture. I thought it really was Jerry Mathers as it resembled him. Today I was watching The Monkees, sorry I used to watch when I was 11, and there was the exact same picture.

Can't defend her yet. How about when she told Ward not to write that poem for him when Beaver needed a poem for school. Then in Beaver's Poster she tells Ward he should help Beaver out and use his drawing skills to make him a poster. She contradicted herself. She could also be unreasonable and told Ward to go out at 10pm at night and rent a parrot for Beaver's pet fair. HUH? Just because he told a whopper of a lie. In Wally's Orchid she told Ward to go right back to the florist and exchange the gardenia for an orchid. Ward complied. Ward certainly pledged allegiance to June.

One good thing she did. By snooping around she found Wally's wallet in his other sports jacket with all the money to pay for dinner at the White Fox. Ward called the maître d' and got it all figured out.

After Wally and Ward spent a lot of time repainting the outdoor furniture gray, June said she hoped she wouldn't want it painted green again. She was the one who invited Wally's dream girl to the picnic. And since we're picking on her, she couldn't even operate the oven after they moved into the new house. Just thought of this one: she told Beaver he couldn't go to the game when he didn't eat his brussels sprouts. Too drastic. She should have consulted with Ward--he obviously didn't agree with the punishment.

June had too much time on her hands. She was always going to mothers' teas and PTA meetings. She and Ward always had to attend dinner parties, weekend trips and other social activities. I think the only time she was charitable was when she was supposed to collect for the Community Chest or having a clothing drive.

June was a housewife and doting mother-- considered the ideal for the parents of the baby boomers. She is a snoop and worries too much. But her family was her life. That's why she got so upset when appearances were not up to her standards ["The Visiting Aunts," "Mother's Day composition," and when Wally lied to the girl named Kitty], and why she so overreacted, as when she sees Wally and Gloria together and says "Who is she? and what's she doing to our baby?" And why she felt she had failed badly, as when Wally and Beaver made the 'friendship pact' and ended up trying to deceive each other, then physically fighting. Ward knew the ways of the world are not so ideal.
