I loved the whole series, but in my opinion, the show really lost its charm and excitement when it moved to CBS and was set in the 1970's. Again - I loved the whole series and I loved Lynda Carter throughout it, but there was a certain charm and gracefulness in the way she played the part in the WWII episodes. Her disguise was definitely much more believable with her "homely" look as Diana Prince with her hair in a bun, huge, round glasses, and military outfit. Though her Wonder Woman outfit was beautiful throughout the series, it seemed much nicer in the WWII episodes. It just looked prettier with the eagle wings altogether (over the breast portion of the costume). The eagle's head was more prominent and easier to be seen (the newer one was so small it was hard to see, almost looking like a stick with wings). The 1940's cut of the "shorts or pants" was charming and it seemed more elegant to me with stars covering all of the "shorts" as opposed to just a few stars at the top in the newer version. In the 1970's version, I did not like the way the "shorts" were cut up high, riding way up her legs. Another thing that bugged me was her lasso on the 1970's version was so short when attached to her belt, yet when she threw it, it mysteriously was extremely long - LOL. In the 1940's/WWII version, the lasso was much longer when she wore it. Even the original 1st season opening animation sequence and the original theme song was the best, adding to the excitement of the show. When the stars exploded at the beginning of the opening animation and the theme music started, as a little kid, it made you want to run around and show off your own superhero powers:) :) Finally, the stories (the writing) and the setting in the WWII also had a charm and nostalgic elegance that the 1970's version lacked. It is a shame ABC let it go, as I believe it was the 1940's/WWII version (the 1st season) on ABC which garnered the highest ratings. Unfortunately, some of the executives didn't want ABC to be known as "the superhero network" and did not pick Wonder Woman up for another season (though it was not officially canceled). ABC also let go other Nielsen ratings HITS such as The Bionic Woman (It was # 14 in the Nielsen ratings when ABC let it go. NBC picked it up - with the show having fewer superior scripts than when on ABC), and a year later The Six Million Dollar Man was also let go by ABC. I would love to hear others thoughts on which version of Wonder Woman they like better and some reasons why they did! :)
