Jack Cassidy recently made some news winning over the judges on "The Voice" weeks ago. He reportedly has an excellent singing voice. But recently the news is that he was "knocked off" the competition.

It all did make me think of some things. Jack Cassidy has his grandfather's name (the originally-known Jack Cassidy, the actor, who was the father of David Cassidy as well as Shaun, and Patrick and Ryan Cassidy).

If he were the son of the original Jack Cassidy, he would be known as Jack Cassidy Jr. But since he is the grandson of Jack Cassidy, then is there a way to identify the currently-living Jack Cassidy as the grandson of Jack Cassidy the deceased actor?. He cannot be called "Jack Cassidy the third" because there was no "Jack Cassidy Jr," or "Jack Cassidy the second."

If or when the current Jack Cassidy becomes as famous as his uncles Shaun and David, will there be a need to identify him as NOT being the Jack Cassidy the actor who died in 1976? Of course since Jack Cassidy the actor is dead, it might be obvious he is not being referred to. But wouldn't it be awkward mentioning the younger Jack Cassidy and then having to say that it is not Jack Cassidy the famed actor, and the grandfather of Jack Cassidy?
I heard there is a certain "rule" or "law" in the show business world that one performer cannot have the exact same name as another, not merely because it is some kind of "copyright infringement" and also not just because it confuses everyone as to who is who. Singer-songwriter Paul Simon had the same name as a certain politician but one was a musician and the other served in the House of Representatives but neither had to somehow alter his name .
But it is known that David Bowie was originally David Jones, but had to change his name so that he is not confused with Davy Jones of The Monkees.

But then I am wondering if Jack Cassidy (guess which one I mean) will actually go on to be the singing teen idol that his two uncles were? He has said that he actually did not like the idea of going into show business and yet he ended up auditioning on The Voice (unless someone forced him to).
Jack Cassidy is still in his teens as far as I have heard, but he does not have a TV show like both his uncles had so as to give him more publicity.

I have not heard him singing but I read that he is very good at it. Would he have the recording career of his uncles? If anyone knows, does Jack sing better than his uncles Shaun and David? I guess it is a matter of opinion.
David's son Beau has auditioned in one of those reality-show singing contests and did not get anywhere. Is Jack Cassidy a better singer than Beau Cassidy?

Also from what I read, it seems that Shaun Cassidy has some 7 children and I think all of them are girls. Anyone know?

David has two, and the youngest is in his mid 20's I think.

If a man has the exact same name as an uncle or grandfather, he would be That Name II. If he has the same first name but different middle name, he is not Jr. or II or III. There was some confusion with Joseph P. Kennedy II as both his uncle and grandfather were named Joseph P. Kennedy, some people called him Joseph III. But because Joseph Jr. was not his father, he is only Joseph II. His son is Joseph III.

The original Jack Cassidy's (1927-1976) actual name was John Joseph Edward Cassidy while his grandson by Patrick is Jack Gordon Cassidy. So, technically, there would be no need to have called the latter day Jack 'Jack II' since the original one's actual name was NOT 'Jack'. In any case, since he was born long after his grandfather's death, I suppose the family decided there wouldn't have been any confusion. However, I can't imagine that having the given name identical to the nickname his late grandfather was called hasn't caused some angst in the latter Mr. Cassidy's life (to say nothing of having to consider his grandfather's. .. complex legacy).

If he dons a box when goes out in public then he could be called Jack in the box :)
