I currently have DIRECTV but they don't offer Laff & Family Net.

Should I switch to Dish because they do offer these 2 channels...

These channels air shows that I'd like to see:

Laff: The Drew Carey Show, Empty Nest, Grace Under Fire

Family Net: Archie Bunker's Place, Benson, The Facts of Life, Silver Spoons

Two questions that immediately spring to mind would be

-What's the price difference?

-Would you be losing any networks you like by switching?

And a point, which I'm sure you've thought of, is that any of those shows you mentioned could leave those networks at any time.

The price difference isn't much. Of course, it'll be cheaper for the first 2 years then go up...that's expected.

The only channel (to my knowledge) I'd be losing is TV One. I watch it sometimes but not much. The shows I do watch on the network I already own on DVD.

If only "Benson", "Archie Bunker's Place", & "The Drew Carey Show" were on DVD then I wouldn't even be considering the change.

One thing to take into account is that Dish is notorious for dropping channels at the drop of a hat when contract talks don't go their way, moreso than other providers. My ABC affiliate is a prime example. When their contract to carry it was up late in 2015, neither side could agree and they wound up dropping it for 7 months. There's other examples (I believe they're still fighting with YES, the Yankees network, and that's been going on for years).

I have Dish. They're a little pricey but I love Laff and Family Net. They have flex packages, but I don't think neither of those channels are in it. Laff has Drew Carey, Night Court, Spin City, Cybill, Empty Nest, Grace Under Fire, Roseanne. They're supposed to be getting 3rd Rock from the Sun. Family Net is a great channel too. They have Silver Spoons, Facts of Life, Barney Miller, Benson, Archie Bunker's Place, All in the Family, I Dream Of Jeannie, Bewitched and The Monkees. Also, Dish has Logo, which is moving into more comedy shows. They just added Alice and One Day at a Time. They also have Green Acres, Three's Company, Mama's Family, Soap, and Married With Children. :)

^Directv also has Logo.

Dish doesn't have MeTV.

If DirecTV ever acquires Antenna TV then I will drop Dish like a hot potato.

Yes, Directv and Dish both have MeTV in my area. I'm not sure about other areas.

I would wait until the next schedule change comes out. What if you switch and then some of these shows aren't on anymore?

Oh, okay. I have Dish and I'm not able to get MeTV. I thought the same was true for all Dish customers.

MeTV is considered a local channel so it depends on your area if your satellite company carries it. Luckily, just recently, MeTV is now on both Dish & Directv in the Atlanta area.

Lucky.:) We don't get it on Dish out here.:(

Does Direct have GetTV? That's been playing some shortlived classic sitcoms, and also variety and talk shows from the 60s and 70s.

^No GetTV on Directv.

I'd probably get cable...I think you can get Laff and Family Net while still having TV One.

I'd rather use my Roku Box.

I wish Family Net was available over the air.

I have never had Dish or Direct so I have no experience with them. However if you like the shows on Family Net,they tend to treat the shows pretty good. Not as many commercials as other channels,so they don't edit the shows that much.Full closing credits etc. However on some of their shows the picture quality tends to be very average or even slightly below. There is nothnig that curretly interests me on Laff so I could not tell you much about that channel.

Cable isn't available where I live and I think the same thing is true for tlc38tlc38. Not sure about a Roku Box.

^Correct. Cable isn't an option where I live.

Roku sounds too complicated. I'm a very simplistic person.

I had Direct TV but switched to cable. I don't care for the cable except now I get Me-TV since Direct TV didn't offer Me-TV in my area. I am seriously thinking of switching back to Direct TV. Cable doesn't have Laff but it is offered in a higher package bundle. As for Roku...I'd give it serious consideration. I too thought it was complicated but it wasn't and I am a simplistic person too...LOL. I no longer use it though since all my tvs have cable now.

I wish Family Net was available over the air.

We dropped Dish and we now watch TV with a Roku online. OMG we get such GREAT shows and it's MUCH cheaper. We are saving 120.00 a month! We do have Sling which is owned by Dish and we get FamilyNet on Sling. The package we have is 25.00 a month.
If you get a Roku you can get a lot of free channels and honestly I can watch almost any show I want now and tons of movies. We do all of this with just our cell phone data using our hotspot. If you want any info on channels, codes etc...send me a message.

(Of course if you have a OTA affiliate in your area- you can just use the OTA feed:

Dish carries as part of there packages (Higher than Flex pack)
LAFF
JUSTICE
GRIT
GETTV
BUZZR

and they have FETV- which shows a mix of various classic programs
