Of the five people I awarded my Little (Stinker) of the Century to on December 31, 1999 three of them have April Birthdays, so I've designated it Little (Stinker) Month. April 2 is the birthday of Kim Phuc, the Woman's International Little (Stinker) of the Century. You probably remember her when she was the subject of one of the most infamous photos taken during the Vietnam War (That didn't get her the award, it's what happened 14 years later that did it for her. She grew up and got married. There are two versions of what happened next. One version has the Government of Vietnam, in collaboration with the Government of Cuba arranged to have the couple spend their honeymoon in Cuba, The other version has her attending school in Cuba when she got married, and the Cuban government, in collaboration with the USSR arrainged for them to spend their honeymoon in Russia. Either way the plane they were on had to make a refueling stop in Canada. Kim and her spouse got off the plane and made a BEELINE to Customs, who gave them Political Asylum. Kim and her family live in the Toronto, Ontario area.
April 14 is the birthday of Flavio DaSilva the Men's International Little (Stinker) of the Century. In 1961 LIFE Magazine decided to do a story about poverty in third-world nations. They choose a slum in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to do their article. Flavio was the oldest child of the DaSilva family, and it was revealed he had a life-threatening illness. When people read about his plight they sent thousands of dollars to the magazine. The reporter who did the story returned to Brazil and came back with Flavio, who spent two years undergoing medical treatment in Denver, Colorado. While he was in the USA he went through a series of misadventures, which got him his award.
Last but not least is April 22, this was the birthday of the late Shirley Temple Black, who received the Woman's USA Little (Stinker) of the Century. She became the first person in US History to earn more than $1,000,000.00 a year BEFORE her eighth birthday omg:
As for the Men's USA Little (Stinkers) of the Century (It was a Dead Heat for both of them) One of them, Matt Winkler has his Birthday in January. He was the first human being to contract a case of rabies, AND LIVE TO TELL ABOUT IT! The other person is Roger Woodward, who at the ripe age of seven swam over Niagara Falls. I googled the H-E-(Double Hockey Sticks) out of his name and found nothing (The anniversary date of his swim in 1960 is July 9, which I've designated as Serious Thrill Issues Day).
For the next 24 hours I,m using Kim Phuc's Photo (NOT that infamous photo, they'd toss me into the booby hatch if I used that one!).
