Whitey should have been embarrassed giving Miss Landers that child's toy. Like when Beaver refused to give David that baby's toy sea serpent. Judy was such a rude person mentioning Beaver's simple present.

Giving Teacher presents was a real dumb idea that went out with class prayer. I remember the teacher reading from the psalms in opening exercises and giving the teacher presents.

I remember reciting the Lord's Prayer in public school...in New Jersey, yet! In high school we paused for 30 seconds of silent meditation (or just silence), before the Pledge of Allegiance.

Our second grade teacher read The lord is my shepherd every morning, we pledged allegiance to the flag then moment of silence. In 6th grade we recited the last verse of the Star Spangled Banner.

In high school I worked on a school news type thing, put out daily over the public address system. So we led the pledge, and the 30 seconds of silence. It's quite eerie to have an entire huge school, 2 large buildings, standing in silence for half a minute. It's amazing a teenager can even be quiet for 30 seconds!

Women in early years wore slips a lot. It was one slip to wear, one in the wash and one in the drawer.

My brothers class if i remember gave gifts to teachers, might been Christmas time in the mid 1950's

Those were the good old days when love of country and faith in God were supported in schools. Today it's just the opposite, leftist "teachers" have taken over who indoctrinate children to hate their country and to never even mention God much less pray. No wonder 1/2 the country is socialist.

One thing I noticed was that a high percentage of those who were picked on back in the day at school for whatever reason and would not fight back or stand up for themselves in any way, turned out to be raging radical liberals later on in life.They went onto college and were easily identified and indoctrinated by the sympthetic ear of their lazy radical left professors. "You poor baby" You were picked on in school because you were,fat,dorky,etc etc. "It's the fault of soceity,capitalism,God blah blah blah. These are the bitter people the colleges turned loose on soceity alot of whom are now teachers,journalists,actors,lawyers,community organizers/agitators,etc. I know this because this happened to people I considered friends whom I grew up with.

Apart from an episode or two about an extended camping trip or out of town vacation, can anyone here recall them NOT being in school or having any actual summer adventures? It seemed Mayfield only seemed to exist between late August and early June!

June also thought sending a naked baby picture to your teacher was sweet.

As for school how about when we all sang religious Christmas carols even if you were Jewish. Terrie, Stephen and Howard got to bring in Jewish holiday ornaments and tell us about Hanukkah.

They were actually leaving on vacation (without Wally, who wanted to stay home to be around his girlfriend), and ran into Eddie, who told them that the girl was going out of town too. So they turned around and got Wally to go with them.

June wanted to get "Teddy" out of the clutches of a scheming girl (whose name I don't remember, but someone will, hopefully!). I think the girl was after Gilbert, too, so he went along on the trip.

Yep, she called Gilbert Gilly. I think at the very end she also went after Whitey and called him by his real name.

Yes, Mary Margaret called Beaver "Teddy," and Gilbert "Gilly", and the two sets of parents wanted those two boys out of town. Beaver told Mary Margaret that "no one had ever called him Teddy before." He forgot that Miss Landers' fiancee had called him Teddy a few years before. Also, I know know we found out Whitey's real name in some episode near the end--it might have been this one--he was calling Beaver, and got Ward or June, and said, "This is Hubert Whitney." I know Mary Margaret ended up getting her hooks into Whitey, but I don't remember if she called him Hubert.
