I'm not sure why there was a need for NOW HEAR THIS, NOW HEAR THIS, but regardless of that I'd prefer to read about it so a link would be great.
Thank you.
Hazel Anyday 03-20-2017, 03:12 AM Well, Zoneboy, as if it wasn't already obvious, but the need for such a special alarm as "Now Hear This" is that the show begins 3 hours from now and when I wrote it it was to begin in less than 12 hours. There was obviously a URGENT call to arms to anyone who wants to watch this show. Now if you're not interested, fine, but to those that are then there was a definite need for such an alert.
As for your preference to read all about it, the show will have been long over by the time you find your official article. But keep looking to read all about it, the rest of us will watch the show instead. Sheesh, some people really do as Andy would say "beat all".
1960'sTVfan 03-20-2017, 09:47 AM The near complete (one episode is missing) series of this show is available on DVD from Nostalgia Merchant.
It's interesting that some of these retro TV stations are starting to air old obscure sitcoms. Antenna TV has Joey Bishop Show, My Mother The Car, It's About Time, GET TV has Gertrude Berg and a few others.
1960'sTVfan 03-20-2017, 10:50 AM I saw pieces of both shows this morning. They seem pretty pleasant. Peter Loves Mary looked really sharp - I was surprised such an old, obscure show would look that good.
The Girl with Something Extra is standing out like a sore thumb now. Both these new additions are Four Star Television productions. They apparently made the Smothers Brothers sitcom from the 60s - I'd love to see that.
One old show that I would really like to see again is That's Life, 1968 musical comedy series with Robert Morse and EJ Peaker. Robert and EJ made an appearance a few years ago for a retrospective/Q & A about the series, there was brief talk at the time of bringing the series to DVD, but nothing has happened. I wonder if maybe the music costs for this series are too prohibitive to issue it on DVD.

Antenna TV also airs Good Morning, World which is pretty obscure.

Yea I forgot to mention that one. I've seen a few episodes but I don't think the show is very good. And I've never been a fan of Billy DeWolfe. Julie Parrish is cute looking.
Hazel Anyday 03-20-2017, 07:40 PM As for Mrs. G... being available on DVD now, I don't see it available anywhere. It's certainly not on Amazon nor on any Google search. I remember well though Nostalgia Merchant, I used to buy Laurel & Hardy VHS tapes from them years and years ago, but they went out of business and I believe another company took over their name. But still no search of the here and now reveals any Mrs. G... DVD set being available for sale. If you know where it is, show us.

OK, it's currently on ebay for $24.95 and free shipping.

It's considered common courtesy to include a link when posting a news item or at the very least name your source if one isn't available. You might want to keep that in mind if you have any future town crier news flashes.
Torgo 03-21-2017, 10:13 AM That's why I rarely watch live TV. DVR everything and skip the commercials.
Svenfan1234 03-21-2017, 11:12 AM Yea I forgot to mention that one. I've seen a few episodes but I don't think the show is very good. And I've never been a fan of Billy DeWolfe. Julie Parrish is cute looking.
I haven't seen it yet because it's on at 1AM on Saturdays. I don't get how My Mother the Car and It's About Time both started out at decent enough times, and Good Morning, World which only had one season just like MMTC but not It's About Time, didn't somehow. I do want to see it though.
1960'sTVfan 03-21-2017, 12:40 PM GetTV has a unique challenge: can these curiosities sustain interest through their marathon commercials? I checked in on both of the new entries several times this morning, each time came upon a direct marketing commercial that gave no sign of ending.
With the Mrs. G. show and the two shows that air after it, I noticed that GET TV is airing these in 40 minute time slots. So I believe that means the episodes are aired uncut, but you have to tolerate 15 minutes of commercials. GET TV also doesn't crunch the closing credits, although I noticed in the 1st episode of Mrs. G. there was no music during the closing credits. I thought that was strange.
I prefer what GET TV is doing, I can live with the commercials if they extend the time slot to air the entire episode. It's better than Antenna TV's method of airing edited episodes and credit crunches.
Speaking of GET TV, last night they had two episodes of Sonny And Cher Comedy Hour, an episode of Van Dyke And Company, and an episode of Johnny Cash And Friends. I didn't care all that much for the Johnny Cash Show, I'm not really a Johnny Cash fan but he did have Roy Clark on, I've always liked Roy Clark he's a great guitar player. The two Sonny And Cher Shows brought back some memories, V.A.M.P....Vamp. I had never seen Van Dyke And Company before but it was interesting, the episode that aired was the one with Lucille Ball as guest star.

Good Morning, World is worth taking a look at, it just isn't a favorite show of mine. But I like 1960's sitcoms so I'll watch almost any sitcom from that era. If the show comes on at a time that isn't convenient for you, maybe you can record the episodes and watch them later?

I mean I have a recorder but haven't recorded GMW yet. I probably will this week. I hope that Antenna gets more short-lived sitcoms like those so we can give them a look.
Hazel Anyday 03-21-2017, 10:04 PM Sorry Zoneboy, you're just gonna have to take whatever I say as law. If I say it you can quote it, only give me the credit. By the way, even more considered common courtesy is not to look for a fight where it doesn't exist. Those people are called Trolls. Heavens, I just know that couldn't be you.

Two short lived 1960's sitcoms that come to mind for me are Hey Landlord and OK Crackerby. Both shows have a few episodes available for viewing on You Tube.
Hey Landlord had one full season, 31 episodes. OK Crackerby lasted only a half season, 17 episodes. OK Crackerby isn't that great of a show, but it stars Burl Ives and I've always liked him, so I'm interested to see this show despite the fact it didn't succeed.
Hazel Anyday 03-22-2017, 07:06 PM Couple comments. I agree, I'd rather Get TV give these rare shows 40 minute time slots even if it means they're loaded with endless commercials but contain uncut episodes. I record all these shows and never watch them live so I skip right thru all the horrible commercials (I wish they were commercials for Tide or Pepsi, but it's nothing but one horror scene or situation after another, more reason not to watch these shows live).
As for Good Morning World, this is the show I saw when it was originally on that made me want to be a radio announcer. Never thought about spinning records before but it looked so fun on this show I had a career in mind from the time I was 9 years old. This show is available on DVD too, it came out several years ago and I watched these DVDs a year or 2 ago. The show is still as good as I remembered it. It features a sweet young and funny Goldie Hawn and one of my favorite characters Billy DeWolfe, he had a funny way of talking and saying certain phrases, "Busy, busy, busy". Yes, I love this show too.

Why should I take anything you post as law with nothing to back-it-up? Also, asking for a link or your source isn't trolling you. Regardless of that, I unfortunately can't pick up GET TV well enough to watch it, but I hope you're enjoying the show.
1960'sTVfan 03-27-2017, 08:56 PM Mrs. G. Goes To College is a classy show, the humor is gentle and the episodes are well written and tell a good story. It is somewhat similar to Robert Young's short lived show Window On Main Street. That series also has a classy atmosphere with gentle humor and good writing in the episodes.
I'm also enjoying GET TV's airings of Peter Loves Mary, this series is more comedy focused and the episodes have a faster pace.
And I'm also enjoying the airings of Girl With Something Extra, seeing the episodes now is like finding them inside a time capsule from 1973.
1960'sTVfan 03-28-2017, 11:31 AM I see that the Peter Loves Mary show has a Flintstones connection. Bea Benaderet, voice of Betty Rubble in The Flintstones, plays the role of a maid/housekeeper in Peter Loves Mary, and her name in the show just happens to be "Wilma".
I've also seen Alan Reed, voice of Fred Flintstone, appear in an episode of Peter Loves Mary.
Hazel Anyday 03-28-2017, 10:15 PM It also appears Peter Loves Mary is on video tape, I haven't been watching every day but when I tune in to see what's going on (I'm recording it for a more convenient viewing time for me) but when I sneak a peek it appears to be on video tape, which makes it look like a live show! Recording Mrs. G also, I had only seen the very first episode of that series before from the Goldbergs DVD set, it was a bonus feature there, it's not a barrel of laughs  but it is nice and people treat each other with respect and nicely. Something you never see on TV sitcoms today.:( It's more a dramedy before the term was invented. It's certainly a pleasure to watch and Peter Loves Mary is loaded with great character actors and is a more comedy based show.
1960'sTVfan 04-25-2017, 11:04 AM According to my calculations, Get TV is airing 23 of the 26 Mrs. G episodes, and 28 of the 32 Peter Loves Mary episodes. That's unfortunate some episodes are being skipped over, maybe the missing ones will air at a later time, I don't know.
1960'sTVfan 04-25-2017, 12:35 PM Are you tacking "Girl With Something Extra?" It seemed like at one point about a month ago, they really jumped forward and completed a cycle faster than in the usual month or so.
Girl With Something Extra has only 22 episodes, it looks like Get TV is airing 21 of them, "Three For The Road" is the one missing episode. I'm not recording the Mrs. G show, I'm not really that fond of it, but I'm recording Peter Loves Mary. A new cycle of Girl With Something Extra starts this Friday, I might start recording those too, I'm thinking about it.
1960'sTVfan 04-25-2017, 01:28 PM They might be getting close to swapping something else in. Looks like this will be about the fifth cycle.
I think the schedule is going to stay the same at least till the end of May, after that they might change it.
The Mrs. G series is OK, it's interesting and some episodes tell a good story, I watch it but in my opinion it isn't worth recording. The episodes tend to be on the dull side and slow moving.
Another thing I like from Get TV is their block of variety shows on Monday nights. I like the Sonny And Cher Show repeats, and some of the other long unseen variety shows/specials that they air. Last night they showed the Friars Don Rickles roast from 1970, Henny Youngman was funny with some of his jokes.
1960'sTVfan 05-11-2017, 08:17 PM This could be completely wrong, but zap2it schedule for DC is showing the Ghost and Mrs. Muir replacing both Mrs. G. and Peter Loves Mary next week. I'm suspicious because the Baltimore Get TV listing isn't showing the change, but maybe they just haven't updated yet.
No I think you're right, those dirty rotten scoundrels at Get TV are changing the schedule because the changes you mentioned are now showing up on the Get TV website too.
Well I guess that will be the end of recording Peter Loves Mary, as it turns out I will have recorded 27 of the 28 episodes they are airing, the only one I'll be missing is the episode titled Movie Star.
At least I'll still be able to record Girl With Something Extra, that show seems to remain on the schedule at least for now. But removing Peter Loves Mary from the schedule at this time really pisses me off. Lousy scumbags at Get TV could have waited till June before changing the schedule.
The main thing that Ghost & Mrs. Muir has going for it is that it's 1960's TV. But overall the show is dull and in my opinion it's not worth recording.
Hazel Anyday 05-11-2017, 09:37 PM Get TV also played some of the episodes of Mrs. G that they skipped the first time around. I was glad to fill in a couple gaps there. Speaking of which Peter Loves Mary episode Aptitude Test is scheduled for May 25, I didn't get this episode during the first run, don't know whether Get skipped it then or my recorder just messed up, but I hope to get it on the 25th. Also on the 25th is an episode of Girl With Sumpin' Xtra, "3 For the Road", I didn't get this one either, either because Get skipped it or my recorder messed up.
1960'sTVfan 05-11-2017, 10:04 PM Peter Loves Mary episode Aptitude Test is scheduled for May 25, I didn't get this episode during the first run, don't know whether Get skipped it then or my recorder just messed up, but I hope to get it on the 25th. As of this coming Monday the 15th, Peter Loves Mary is off the schedule so forget about recording it at least for the time being. There might be a chance the show will return at some point in the future, but next week it's being replaced with Ghost & Mrs. Muir. Girl With Something Extra remains on the schedule at least for now.
Thanks to Alan Brady's Hair for the heads up regarding this schedule change.
1960'sTVfan 05-16-2017, 11:07 AM I'm still irate with Get TV for changing the schedule in the middle of the month, they could have waited till June to change the schedule. I wonder if maybe they were getting bad comments from people about the Mrs. G. show and Peter Loves Mary to make such an abrupt change in the schedule. The Mrs. G. show I'm not concerned about, but I was recording Peter Loves Mary. At least I already had most of the episodes recorded, I'm only missing one episode from the ones they were showing. That's another thing I'm not happy about, they didn't air all 32 episodes, they skipped 4 of them for whatever reason. Maybe Get TV will put the Mrs. G. show and Peter Loves Mary back on the schedule at a later time, I'll check their website occasionally for any schedule changes.
1960'sTVfan 06-10-2017, 12:10 PM It looks like there will be no more Mrs. G. Goes To College airings on Get TV because the show has been removed from Get TV's website, it's no longer on their list of shows. Peter Loves Mary is currently still on the list so hopefully they will air episodes again in the near future.
1960'sTVfan 07-12-2017, 02:21 PM Well at least for the time being Peter Loves Mary won't be airing on Get TV because that show is now also no longer listed on the Get TV website. However, since I last posted here about a month ago, I was able to obtain the five episodes I was missing, and I now have all 32 episodes of the series. :)
Peter Loves Mary and the Mrs. G. show aired for only 8 weeks and then Get TV abruptly yanked them from the schedule, that's pretty bad. I seldom watch the channel now, the only shows they currently air that I like are the Sonny And Cher repeats and the occasional retro variety show airings, and they seem to be cutting back on those too.
