Comedy Central is adding to its late-night offerings. Writer, actor and stand-up comedian Jim Jefferies has been tapped to host a weekly late-night talk show on the cable network, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The untitled 10-episode series will debut in the summer and feature Jefferies taking on culture, politics and more. A premiere date has not yet been determined.
"Jim has a huge comedic voice on the global stage," said Comedy Central president Kent Alterman. “During development, we also learned his talent is only surpassed by his incredible work ethic.”
Australian comic Jefferies recently wrapped his second Netflix comedy special and is fresh off an international stand-up tour. In addition to writing and creating FX comedy "Legit", he has starred in multiple comedy specials for networks including HBO.
For Comedy Central, the untitled Jefferies late-night show comes seven months after opting to cancel "The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore". The Viacom-owned cable network, one of the company's six core areas of focus for new CEO Bob Bakish, is still working to develop a series to pair with Trevor Noah's "The Daily Show". The cabler's late-night lineup also includes Chris Hardwick's interactive, topical game show, "@midnight".
Jefferies, Scott Zabielski and Brillstein Entertainment Partners' Alex Murray and Tim Sarkes will executive produce, with Jason Reich (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee) on board as co-executive producer and head writer. Monika Zielinska and Adam Londy will oversee for Comedy Central.
Jefferies' show comes as Samantha Bee has found success with a similar weekly late-night show.
