James Doohan (1920-2005) was a journeyman actor with a fair amount of TV work on his resume when, in 1966, he was cast in the role of Montgomery “Scotty” Scott on Star Trek. That pretty much became the rest of his life, as he played the role in seven feature films, the animated series, an episode of Star Trek: TNG, and in a number of video games. That’s not to mention that he was a longtime favorite at fan conventions.
