I'm surprised they called Miss Landers a new teacher in season 3. She goes way back to season 2 with School Play, Beaver Plays Hookey, Beaver's Ring.

I think when Ward said she was "new", he meant it in a comparative way. After all, it was only her second year of teaching.

  Welcome to the Boards La Jonda!!!

I think, Miss Lander's having only taught for a couple of years, was still considered new to the profession.

Not really, as Mrs Rayburn, the school principal, started out as a teacher there, and before Miss Landers, there was Miss Canfield. Lady teachers there was nothing new.

I thought that the whole Mrs Rayburn was very progressive for the time or shows that women had been in professional roles for a long time.

Thanks for the welcome! I am an import from the IMDB boards.

I've always thought the comment was odd--there was no reference to her being new in the second season. Just something else a script continuity person could have changed or deleted.

Haven't checked but I think we see Miss Landers for the first time in Ward's Problem when she tells the class about the father and son picnic. However I believe Beaver mentions her earlier. No mention of Miss Canfield gone. Beaver's two favorite teachers were Canfield and Landers.

I think that "Ward's Problem" should have aired first, then (later on), they could air "Beaver's Poem". It would have made more sense (timeline wise, that is).

I've finally been reading that book, The World According To Beaver, and the author repeats (on p. 87) something that Mathers also said in his book: we never knew Miss Landers' first name. NOT TRUE: In "Miss Landers' Fiance'," we learn her first name is Alice. In the same sentence, he also says we don't know her new last name--also NOT TRUE; it's Brittingham.

That's right. Jerry should have done some research or checked out these boards to get a handle on the show he starred in for 6 years. Of course Jerry was young back in the early seasons but don't write a book assuming the facts are correct. Funny how Alice Landers is supposed to be married but in Nobody Loves Me he goes to see Mrs. Brittingham and she's Miss Landers.

Maybe they postponed the wedding, or broke up (giving Beaver hope!).
