When Mom and I started to watch Eight Is Enough on PAX TV I noticed that the theme song was different and when Eight Is Enough would start it first had a instrumental theme song in it's intro then Eight Is Enough had Grant Goodeve sing a wonderful theme song in the later seasons in many different versions. Were different versions of the theme song made for Eight Is Enough every season?

Each season had a different opening with different scenes of all the actors. As far as theme songs go, season 1 and 2 had the instrumental theme song (which I prefer) and seasons 3, 4 and 5 had Grant Goodeve singing the theme song.

There were different versions of the theme for each season. The pilot, season 1, and season 2 each shared the same instrumental theme, but each had its own distinct arrangement of that theme. Same for seasons 3-5: they all used the Grant Goodeve them, but each had a distinct arrangement, and Goodeve rerecorded the theme each season.

The version with lyrics sung by Grant has to be one of the worst TV theme songs of all time. The lyrics alone make me want to vomit.

I think they should've kept the original instrumental theme song of Eight Is Enough because that theme was better. I don't know why they chose Grant Goodeve to sing a theme song with lyrics for the later seasons. Because the first version of the Grant Goodeve theme was more of a disco version but the later version is more Disney-like but why they chose Grant Goodeve to sing the Eight Is Enough theme song i'll never figure out
