I have stumbled upon this link. (I hope it works.) it's an old advertisement for what is now Alltice USA.

You will notice that it says "The company with 36 of the nation's top entertainment and info. Choices."
Now, I found out that now thanks do the digital transition and thanks to broadcast stations having digital sub channels, the NY market has now at least 50 free channels. Yeah, some of them are channels are channels that are not mentioned around these parts but still.
