Shows like this are so important.

All my life my friends have joked/been weirded out about my heavy interest in shows like UM, 20/20, and Dateline.

But in my opinion, I owe my life to these shows. Because of what I've seen growing up on these segments, I have always been overly cautious and protective. I will always lock my windows and doors, I never answer the door to someone I don't know, I'm suspicious of anybody being overtly friendly and approaching me out of nowhere. I know not to be by myself after dark if I can help it. I constantly notice and pay attention to things. It sounds ridiculous, but one night, my fiancé and I were watching tv in bed when we heard gun shots. I made sure to look at the clock so if anything ever came of it, I could give police correct information. There are of course some things that just aren't preventable. But this show showed me what I can do to prevent things.

Not only that, but think of how many fugitives have been caught when a viewer phoned in and recognized them as a neighbor or coworker under an assumed identity.

We had Dissappeared on ID for a while, but even that is over. I understand that all things must come to an end eventually, but this show helped so many people, and I wish we had something to replace it with.

Sorry for the long post!

I think UM and other true crime shows I watch have made me be more aware of my surroundings as well. If I'm coming home to an empty house I close the garage door behind me before I get out of the car so no one can run up the driveway and accost me, lol.

I love Disappeared too. It might be returning for an 8th season btw. Someone posted a link on the Disappeared thread in the True Crime sub-board where they were doing a casting call for the show recently. So excited if it is...:)

Yes! My friends call me paranoid, I prefer "kept on my toes"

It would be great to have Disappeared come back! A lot less of their shows had any kind of closure, but I think it's those kinds of cases that need to be showcased.

What's the news on the original UM possibly coming to streaming? I read a thread about it here a while back.

Are you messing with us, friend? If not, hold onto your hat. UM is back in its full glory on Amazon. Check the top of the UM page. All sorts of stickied notes on it! So far, it's just seasons 1-2, but I fully anticipate more are on the way...

It's been great to see the episodes in all their former glory. :)
