Shows like this are so important.
All my life my friends have joked/been weirded out about my heavy interest in shows like UM, 20/20, and Dateline.
But in my opinion, I owe my life to these shows. Because of what I've seen growing up on these segments, I have always been overly cautious and protective. I will always lock my windows and doors, I never answer the door to someone I don't know, I'm suspicious of anybody being overtly friendly and approaching me out of nowhere. I know not to be by myself after dark if I can help it. I constantly notice and pay attention to things. It sounds ridiculous, but one night, my fiancé and I were watching tv in bed when we heard gun shots. I made sure to look at the clock so if anything ever came of it, I could give police correct information. There are of course some things that just aren't preventable. But this show showed me what I can do to prevent things.
Not only that, but think of how many fugitives have been caught when a viewer phoned in and recognized them as a neighbor or coworker under an assumed identity.
We had Dissappeared on ID for a while, but even that is over. I understand that all things must come to an end eventually, but this show helped so many people, and I wish we had something to replace it with.
Sorry for the long post!
