Let me preface this by stating that I am by no means in any way downplaying the tragic death of the late Robert Reed. That being said, I for one am so sick and tired of whenever I am reading some article, or blog, or anything related to "The Brady Bunch", a huge chunk of it is devoted to talking about Robert Reed and it is always the same stuff - he had a rough time having to hide his sexuality, he had a drinking problem, he often clashed with Sherwood Scwartz, ect. I understand he was the patriarch of the clan, but I for one would like to find out about OTHER castmembers besides Robert Reed, especially since everything that's been written about him is the same stuff that has always been written about him. I, personally, happen to find the relationships between the TV siblings away from the cameras even more fascinating. I also happen to be very curious as to why Maureen and Eve really disliked each other and continue to dislike each other. Heck, I want to know all about when Davy Jones was on the set and how he got on with everyone as well as how he was treated on the set. But, no matter what, even when something is being said/written about all this other non-Robert Reed related stuff, all this Robert Reed-CRAP is yet again the main focus of said article/story/whatever. If I'm lucky, I may get a tiny little blurb about the Maureen/Eve off-set dynamic, or Davy Jones, but then as soon as Robert Reed's name is even briefly mentioned, it suddenly becomes all about ROBERT REED!!!!! And I have no desire, or interest, in ever buying either Barry Williams', or Maureen McCormick's tell-all's. I was even reading this online article a few years ago that talked about the infamous "Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!" episode and they only briefly mentioned when Eve had a tough time saying the "Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!" line, then it went into this whole "Robert Reed hated this scene" ****e and then the article takes up the rest of the page droning on and on about Robert Reed's issues with the show and his character. Even when talking about when Eve Plumb appeared on an episode of "Facts of Life", they go right into Robert Reed being gay, only because Eve's character said the word "lesbian" and rather than getting to find out what lead to Eve's appearance on the show, it's once again the same CRAP about Robert Reed!! And when Maureen McCormick guest starred on an episode of "Herman's Head", very little was said about her experience on the set and how she got along with the actors on the show. Yet again, it soon became all about ROBERT REED!!! Just had to rant a bit about that. Even when the "Brady Bunch" satire movies came out in the '90s, all anyone could talk about, or write about, in regards to these movies was Robert Reed.

You have to understand that as far as entertainment writer/reporters go, they are virtually all liberals and are obsessed with gays and gay rights, so they think it's their responsibility to harp on this because they think it's the most important thing in the world.

For the others, I'm sure that Sherwood Schwartz' memories of making The Brady Bunch were dominated by dealing with Robert Reed, who drove him crazy each and every week by dissecting the scripts in minute detail. The one I remember best is there was a line in one episode about strawberries cooking on the stove and Reed's line was "It's smells like strawberry heaven". Well, it turns out that cooking strawberries don't actually smell (a fact which Reed researched in an encyclopedia) and he held up filming because he refused to say the line.

I remember for awhile after Robert Reed died, the media kept mentioning that he had HIV, even though he didn't die of HIV. There's even a line in the film "Reality Bites" about it.

Eve is the only one with the problem about wanting to distance there self from the show and Maureen.Maureen has no idea why Eve has a problem with her,except she's made a joke about Eve that she may be mad about.

Maureen made a public statement that she is sorry if Eve took offense to it.
It might be that Eve wants to put the Brady Bunch in the past,& that's it.

Well, I don't know if it is as extreme as you say. I have not tried to read every little article about the Brady Bunch cast. It could be that since you are looking for different aspects of the show and the cast, it seems to you that the every article is so obsessed with Robert Reed and his sexuality and difficulties with Sherwood Schwartz etc. and there isn't enough information on other facts.

I know that the slightly-fictionalized movie "Growing Up Brady" focused on the romantic feelings that Barry Williams had toward Maureen McCormick.
Of course the movie was made to explain the story according to the fact that Barry Williams was always being asked by people whether he had a "relationship" with Maureen McCormick. Barry Williams had something to do with the making of the film so I guess, through it, he was admitting that he did "date" Maureen McCormick and did have a thing for her. But I think that nevertheless the movie should have also addressed what you mentioned, the dynamics between other cast members, what happened when Davy Jones was on the set (Growing Up Brady only briefly touched on that) and it really would have made the movie more interesting if it went more into the lives of the younger cast members after the show went off the air. I know that they had trouble finding roles after being so typecast and even made into teen idols.


As far as articles about cast-members of well-known older, cancelled TV shows, the "Where-Are-They-Now?" articles, of course many tend to focus on certain things and not enough on others.

The episode of the "Facts of Life" in which Eve Plumb appeared is called "The Best Sister". In this episode, the character of Blair has a half-sister or step-sister or something to that effect who is on her way to becoming a nun. She assured Blair that any advice that she can give her is advice that she has already heard. She goes on to say "I have been called everything from a lyer to a lesbian".

I had no idea that Maureen McCormick ever appeared on "Herman's Head". However, if anyone here is interested in that series, I suggest that you head over to the "Friends" page of this site.
