No Charles Morgan???

Shoot. That is one of my all-time favorite UM stories. I am really curious why certain stories would be left out. Charles Morgan was even on the official DVD set so why would it be left out now?

I don't know about Charles morgan being left out...that is one of the most mysterious segs. but also one most of us have seen/discussed the most through circulation. Which DVD set is that on? I only ask because I only recall the Doug Johnston segment that features the reporter who covered Charles Morgan and it briefly mentions Danny C.

It could be a set that I don't own.

The Doug Johnston segment is on the Bizarre Murders DVD set. They show a very brief recap of the Morgan case at the beginning of the Johnston segment, but the Morgan segment was not released individually on the DVD.

There's a possibility that they'll be used to plug in in season 3.

That said we got Rudolf Hess segment and the original RFK segment. Finally, we get to see the original RFK segment again.

I think I've seen the original RFK one on the Farina episodes last year but I haven't seen the Hess one in a long time.

The original RFK one was on the first Unsolved Mysteries episode I ever saw. It was a special with a lot of different cases on it.

Very excited that Season 2 is up and hopefully we'll get Season 3 soon as well. :)

Yes, only one that I've noticed so far: Kathy Power. I assumed that her case wasn't going to be on any of the episodes since she had been caught, served her time, and was released. Hopefully, this means we'll get to see Mike Riemer and some of the other cases in later episodes.

Interesting... I just went to their Twitter page to read those. There are a couple of other tidbits, too: more Stack seasons to come throughout the year (woo-hoo!) and they are trying to make the Stack seasons available on Netflix.

As someone indicated earlier, I wonder what the "legal" reasons are? You would think all rights to the stories would have been signed over when the shows originally aired. They are also showing plenty of solved cases so I don't see why others would be kept out. At least they may show up in later seasons, so there is hope! ;)

I know there have been a few cases where the families profiled in UM cases have asked for their segment to not be re-aired in syndication, etc. I'm sure some of the other members on the board can be more of a help in specificity, but I am curious how the process of releasing these RS seasons and segments again actually works. Do they have to go through each of the segments and reach out to the main contacts in the cases to get permission? Or does UM have the rights to re-air, unless someone involved in the case reaches out and begs them not to re-air the case again?

I also noticed that on Facebook, UM have been replying quite frequently to users asking about new episodes. They seem to have a pretty optimistic answer like "We hope a network will be interested in producing new episodes in the future!" To me this seems like an easy way to take blame off of CM themselves, and say its up to a network. However, UM hasn't produced new episodes and segments (ignoring the Farina re-tooling of old segments) in over a decade, so I hardly doubt a network will just contact them to order new segments. CM would probably have to go in and pitch to different platforms and networks to get new episodes of the show on air.

Me too, and it had the Michael Henley update.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the recent developments in the case (not to mention the Henley aspect being resolved years ago) would put the Calico segment on the chopping block.

I would imagine some sort of lawsuit being threatened for the other segments being re-aired. I know for a fact that the Doyle Wheeler segment had a lawsuit threatened by Donovan Jacobs because he didn't like the way he was portrayed. Who knows how many other segments are out there where interviewees threatened legal action if the segment ever re-aired? And I would include the criminals who were caught, convicted, and served their time. There's no need to rehash cases like Charles Wilson Chester or Melvine Aprille. Or even the Boston Mall Rapist since the statute of limitations ran out. I could see them being concerned with someone coming forward and id'ing a person and then having legal fallout from that. For the diehard purists like us here it would be nice to have a complete collection, but I think this is geared towards the more "casual" viewer going back to watch for nostalgic reasons.

I am dumbfounded as to why they wouldn't show Mark Groezinger or Marlena Childress. Unless there is some sort of a threat by Judy Groezinger or Marlena's mother, maybe they'll show these on a later season? Because to my knowledge, both of these were re-broadcast on both Stack reruns on Lifetime and the Farina version.

I thought about the solved issue of some of these cases and that may be why they were chopped, but that doesn't make a ton of sense. They have a lot of cases that have been solved and in many instances the guilty person is already out of jail. You'd think if they were going to whack segments it would be ones like those.

I am hopeful that they will be in later seasons where they might need episodes to fill in. Maybe (hopefully?) they will use some of the higher profile cases in later seasons to help keep the interest.

The Doyle Wheeler case makes sense (Donovan Jacobs suing) but I'd really like to know what other "legal issues" are preventing these from seeing new life. They were broadcast once and many of them in syndication on Lifetime. Why would it be an issue now?

Hopefully this will be a moot point and we'll get to see these all in due time...

As it stands, the second season is only 19 episodes long. There is a chance they could expand it. I remember at one point, one of the Farina seasons only had 9 episodes or so and then a few days later there were 13. I'm sort of hoping this could happen here. When you add up what we're missing from seasons one and two so far, that's a LOT of material.

Fascinating. Over the course of 20+ years on Lifetime, I never once saw that segment on that network. I always assumed it never made the cut for some reason.

I do remember it originally airing on NBC. And me being 9 years old at the time, running in the opposite direction because I decided UM was too scary of a show for me to handle. I lasted about 10 minutes before I turned it back on. This was pretty much a regular pattern for me throughout 2nd grade every Wednesday night.

There was a another Vietnam lost love case with Jim Baczkowski looking for Captain Linda Sharp. It's similar to the Jim Meade story except Baczkowski had to have his leg amputated. While being interviewed, he could barely keep himself together when he talked about how much he needed to find her. She's an amazing woman.

When they were reunited, he handed her a gorgeous plaque with various professional illustrations of her during the war. Still one of my favorite reunions.

I've always been so curious as to what she looked like. As far as I know, she's the only murder victim ever profiled on UM that didn't even show a single photo.
I've seen the Anna Anton segment a LOT and I never noticed they didn't show an actual picture of her. LOL.

Who else has a new found appreciation for the Lost Loves segments? I hadn't seen them in years (most of the collections or stuff on forbidden site was unexplained death, wanted, murder, etc.) and now don't want to skip them like I used to.

ETA: The Mark Groezinger segment is available under the Farina episodes. So hopefully, they'll upload the original Stack segment and repackage it with a later season.

No offense but the LL segments bore me.

I do hope they include the Mark Groezinger case later. It's a classic, imo.

I never hated them like others seem to, sure they were far from my favorites, but I'm a sucker for happy endings in those situations and seeing the sheer joy in their faces.

As for Mark Groezinger, as a classic case, I certainly hope it shows up at some point.

yeah I watched the Jim Meade and his nurse episode for the first time. Is there a resolution more heartwarming than than one?

I don't think i've EVER seen this one until today on Amazon. Even the way Stack says that he was making "Animal like noises" gave me the same chill i got from watching as a kid.

The Hess segment is probably the most solvable. Exhume the body and do DNA!

I usually bypasses the LL segments, but I like the ones where theyre trying to find people from the war days, or long lost foster parents. I sound cruel, but the split up adopted siblings cases bore me :(

I actually skipped a lot of segments in season 2. It's a shame that there are quite a few missing segments.

That would only solve if it was Hess.

I think it was Hess, and yeah, he was murdered. Somebody had him murdered, and everybody looked the other way because he was one of the top Nazis, he had the blood of millions on his hands.

Yes! I find I have a new appreciation for them, to my surprise. I used to skip, too, because I guess I was more intrigued by the really dark stuff (like you said unexplained death, wanted, murder, etc.). But now, these lost loves and sometime reunions are more touching - maybe it's because I'm older?

It's also interesting to see if there are new updates, and also to sort of look at them through a 2017 lens, you know? Like the Orphan Train segment - that was 80-90 years ago now. What a different time in our history, when we would just pack some kids on a train and hope someone would pluck them off and give them a family.

And I choked up when Sylvia Wemhoff found her brother.

Tara Calico segment is missing??? It's a good thing I held off signing up for prime membership. Many of the best segments from the first 2 seasons have been omitted. On one hand I am very grateful that we have many epiosodes to work with, on the other hand I am VERY disappointed. I knew they were going to pull some kind of garbage like this!

It's not as if anybody dropped the ball. These are segments that no one would have been able to re-release.

So I'm actually loving the LL segments lately. I'd never had much of an interest before, but now I'm sorry I waited so long to really watch them. Pretty fascinating to take in the great trouble some of these folks went through to find their people pre-internet.

A question was asked about the missing segments on their Facebook page and they replied that some were removed for legal reasons, but others were going to be moved to other season's releases.

Now why they would move them, I can't fathom.... but it does mean some of them may still pop up at some point.

Why not just keep the ones that aren't bogged down by legal problems where they are? Are they yanking our chain?

Good questions....

Only repeating what they said, I agree that it doesn't make much sense.

I'm with you. I think the advent of social media/the internet has made me take for granted just how easy it's been for people to reconnect. Can't say the same for the people on the LL segments. Which is a shame. I'm even more bummed out now when there is no update.

I fell asleep during the last episode of season two. I just woke up during the Terasita Bassa segment and heard her whisper "why did you not go to the poliiiiiice?".

I need some new shorts.

I was never a fan of the LL segments either. I remember being totally bummed when those segments would air. I would much rather see a missing persons, unexplained death, wanted, etc.

I always liked the Lost Love segments. I never lost my appreciation for them. Seeing friends/family reunited was awesome. It was refreshing to see some people featured on this show find some happiness.

The only segments I could never make it through were the treasure ones.

Why not just keep the ones that aren't bogged down by legal problems where they are? Are they yanking our chain?

Both issues are intertwined. The only way they can keep the original broadcasts intact is to do just that. Otherwise they are left with broadcasts that do not have the requisite amount of segments in order to fill up a forty-five minute broadcast. Now I'm guessing that all of the streaming episodes don't exactly clock in at forty-five minutes on the nose, but it's probably what Cosgrove-Meurer are aiming for.

So they need to cobble together the "crippled episodes" (for lack of a better term) by doing a bit of a hodge-podge with the segments that they have available to them. A good example of this is how they disseminated the "Hauntings" broadcast from season one which originally contained four segments centering around ghosts. In terms of the hand they have been dealt due to the legal issues with other segments, this was actually a pretty deft move. Instead of having an solitary streaming episode devoted to four similar segments, they decided to disassemble that episode and drop each segment into a different broadcast giving them a plethora of options in terms of "adding a ghost story here or there".

The bottom line is Cosgrove-Meurer are just dealing with the hand they've been dealt. There is likely no grand conspiracy afoot and as JS mentioned, the diehards are likely the only ones who are noticing that the streams are not representative of the original broadcasts.

LOL, I jumped on here IMMEDIATELY to tell you guys that they released them, but seems Im late to the party. I was surfing Amazon tonite for a mystery / thriller and I saw Unsolved mysteries season 1 and 2 and I was like no friggin way!

I jumped on here to tell you folks, looks like I am the last to find out. LOL

Oh well, I tried.

I didnt see a sticky on the front page of the UM forums. It should be so folks can know - maybe not everyone has amazon prime.

Im jacked!! Gonna start browsing them now!

Take care gang! I know it may be not all the episodes we want, but hey, its a start and better than those dvd ones they released!

As of today, we are at the same amount of time since season 2 dropped as transpired between season 1 and season 2's release. I tried saying that a couple of different ways and just couldn't put together anything more elegant than this. Hopefully season 3 comes soon.

Maybe there are more updates for S3?

Or maybe they had started on S2 before any of them went up on Amazon...

Could be. Looking at the episode listings for season 3, there were some segments that were repeated in that season. Could remove some of the repeats and add segments from 1 and 2 that were skipped.

I will say that I prefer the gradual release plan that they're using because of the way it breeds discussion on these boards. We're all watching the same episodes and therefore wanting to discuss the same cases at the same time.

Couldn't agree more. Plus, I think each new season brings in new viewers, which results in folks Googling the cases and directing them over here... :D

It sounds like it may take a while before Season 3 is posted. Someone asked the official Unsolved Mysteries twitter account for a eta and they replied simply, "We are working on it. New seasons will be posted throughout the year." Not much to go off of.

They gave that same answer when people were asking when season 2 would be out. They're just being non-committal to avoid being held to deadlines.
