Cable's Bravo channel announced yesterday it has purchased the rights to two short-lived series - the newsroom drama "Breaking News" and the Oliver Platt crime drama "Deadline." "Breaking News," which starred Tim Matheson, Clancy Brown, Lisa Ann Walter, Scott Bairstow and Patricia Wettig, was originally in development at TNT to air last summer. However with the AOL Time Warner merger, executives found they could write off the hefty cost of the show ($20 million) by scrapping the 13 produced episodes. Bravo will begin airing the show Wednesdays at 8:00/7:00c starting July 17. As for "Deadline," the Oliver Platt series was canceled after five episodes on NBC last season due to low ratings however production was completed on its initial 13 episode order. The series will join "News" on Wednesday nights at 9:00/8:00c starting July 24.
Excellent!
I was a big fan of "Deadline." I always felt that NBC was too quick to give it the boot. Oliver Platt was very good in that show.
It always ticks me off when a network has episodes bought, paid for and in the can, but they give up on the show and never air them again.

Breaking News never even aired on TNT. So this will be good to see. John Ritter was in the pilot.

I hate when they do it too. Why don't they just release them on dvd or video.

Deadline was an excellent show with a great cast, but it went a little too fast during many of it's episodes. During one episode a rapist is attacking women in Central Park...and once the kilelr is found, he is basically dropped from the story, and a whole entire other subplot comes in. Plus...I think that audiences were hoping for some action, and Deadline was much more talk, than action. Plus, my Bebe was in it, so i had to watch it.
