Anyone else interested in the Doreen Marfeo case? I recently re-watched this one for the first time in awhile and I find it really intriguing. Given the fact that her husband, Stephen Marfeo, killed his girlfriend and then himself in 2000, I don't find it a stretch to assume he was behind her disappearance. The real question is: where is she?

He killed himself at a reservoir, so police naturally believed this may have been the place where he'd disposed of Doreen's body, but they dragged it and did not find her. There is also the bizarre element of the typewritten letters to the police that claim Doreen was dishonest/promiscuous. Police matched the letters to Marfeo's mother's typewriter, so it's quite likely he wrote them, but why? One of the letters states that Stephen killed her and dumped her body in a pond, so if he did in fact write them, why would he be implicating himself?

Doreen's mother remained close with Stephen until his death; I believe there was an article I read that even stated she had seen him the day before he killed himself. She didn't seem to think he killed her daughter, which seems odd but she may have had personal reasons to think so.

Somewhat baffling, I think. The most probable answer is that Marfeo killed her, but I am surprised that she has not been found. If she is in fact in a pond somewhere near their home, I can't imagine it would have been that difficult to do searches, especially since ponds don't have the depth or breadth of something like a lake.

I firmly believe he killed her and buried her body somewhere, possibly not far from where he killed himself. I don't know how thorough the search was (or was able to be) but I have no doubt he did it and disposed of her body. It's even possible he dismembered her before disposal.

I think the letters likely came from him or a family member. He seems messed up enough that he could have done that trying to assuage his own guilt. I'll admit that piece of this is seriously weird.

In reeds in a pond off of a narrow dirt road.

Yes Kadrmas I just watched this one recently. The letter (obviously written by her husband) seemed to be an odd sort of confession so I wondered if that's how he did actually dispose of her body. The fact that she's never been found would make sense if her body was put in water many years ago.

One of the most chilling updates on UM btw, in my opinion.

This was one of the updates the original UM did as a "text on the screen" update rather than a narrated one, wasn't it? I always found those creepier than the standard ones and this one was the creepiest of the bunch.

For me, the saddest part of this case has always been this quote which is the one of the last thoughts on the Charley project page about it.

Doreen's mother, however, describes Stephen as a kind and supportive man; she does not believe he was involved in her daughter's disappearance.
