View Full Version : METV lost its appeal
Crusinforabrusin 01-25-2017, 07:23 PM I once enjoyed this channel , but over the past year or two , I have come to dislike it for the most part. With shows like The Beverly Hillbillies or Perry Mason , their schedule has become crap. Too much drama shows and western on the schedule , especially Saturday mornings for westerns. As for the sitcoms , blech.... They have Mister Ed which is OK and The Donna Reed Show is good. I love Lucy is on at 6:30A.M. which is OK but it needs a break . As for early evening sitcoms , Mamas Family is good to watch. Mash at 7P.M. is an excellent choice for that time and its a good show too. Andy Griffith, I don't care too much for so yeah.
Their schedule isnt all that great , and for the most part, is the reason I stay on Antenna TV most of the time.
How about your thoughts on Metv? Has it lost its appeal or not?
PhoenixAcres 01-25-2017, 10:13 PM I've found myself somewhat migrating to Antenna TV as well. Me does have a lot of good shows but not always at the best hours. If I ever watch it, it's usually Andy Griffith or something on the weekends. I do have to give them credit for not credit-crunching though. That's my major complaint with Antenna.
tlc38tlc38 01-25-2017, 10:44 PM I like Mama's Family weekdays and Sundays are pretty good.
Svenfan1234 01-25-2017, 10:49 PM For me:
Weekdays: Mama's Family
Saturdays: Svengoolie
Sundays: Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, I Love Lucy, & The Love Boat
1960'sTVfan 01-25-2017, 11:01 PM MeTV started going downhill about 6 or 7 years ago when the decision was made to go nationwide with it. It was a much better station when it first started out in 2005 as a retro TV station for Chicago. A few years later, they added another station, MeTOO, which I understand no longer exists, and they also added another channel, ThisTV, which was mostly a channel for movies. But since MeTV went nationwide, it isn't that good anymore. It's not a terrible station, but the schedule isn't very good, and the MeTV station in my area shows the programs in widescreen format, I HATE widescreen , when I watch TV I want to see a full picture on my TV screen.
icecream 01-25-2017, 11:11 PM Me-TV remains the channel I want most, there are dozens of stations I would trade for it.
Bonniegirl 01-25-2017, 11:11 PM I like the Sunday line up!!! But other than that!!! Saturday and weekday afternoons with the endless Westerns is too much! And most of the good weekday shows are on too early! The only weekday later shows I like are Diagnosis Murder, CHIPS and Mama's family!
WAY to many Westerns , WAY too much Andy Griffith and WAY too much Mash!:(
All in all Antenna is a lot better I think!!!;)

And Sven, right?
If I am home in the mornings I will watch Matlock. I just don't like Diagnosis Murder.
Bonniegirl 01-25-2017, 11:22 PM And Sven, right?

Yeah sure! Sven is fun sometimes! ;) Also I like Batman sometimes too!:)
MikeLutton 01-25-2017, 11:49 PM MY Affilhate has paid programing on sunday during happy days laverne shirley hour makes me mad but ido got them on dvd so that good
Tubehead 01-27-2017, 12:54 AM Im not really fan of me tv any more!! i enjoy Antenna TV bu Antenna TV shows more classic sitcoms were me tv shows more westerns & doctor shows! i do like parry mason i don't think diagnosis murder should be on me tv!! neither should mat lock ! i would get ride of the westerns they show them on tv land & inspiration net work!! escapilly like all the time especially like gunsmoke or bonanza!! i do like there sci fi saturday night line up!! i wish they would air 1977 spider -man live action show!! i would also bring back some of the cops shows like magnum pi the rock ford files kojack , & many more!!
Samme 01-27-2017, 01:29 AM I like it. It's the channel I watch the most. Andy Griffith, Mama's Family, the half-hour Gunsmoke, Rifleman, all on at good times. Thank God Andy Griffith is on at 8PM, 'cause what else is on at that time worth watching? And it's in HD. Carol Burnett at 11PM...
Most of TV is insanely bad and people are whining about a good channel.
BigManMike 01-27-2017, 09:30 AM I haven't watched it in a long time either. Most of what I like on there I already have on DVD and their scheduling is just not that good.
rusty spike 01-28-2017, 03:33 AM I don't have Antenna TV in my area, so Metv is the only close to what TVLand used to be. They tend to show a lot of shows that are already available on other channels. I appreciate that they don't vandalize your viewing pleasure with split screens, squashed bumpers or annoying bugs that constantly pop up and crawl around.
AceWesternson 01-28-2017, 12:32 PM every time i go to Jacksonville florida i watch a little bit of Antenna TV since i don't get it from where i am, and i compare it to me tv but i don't like a diginet channel that only has sitcoms and nothing else, because that's not catering to everyone ME TV caters to everyone that loves dramas/sitcoms/westerns and their E/I stuff so i prefer me tv over antenna tv,
Antenna TV does have good shows but I wouldn't want to watch that most of the times if i had that channel, Antenna TV doesn't have variety it just has sitcoms.
so ME TV's programming is wayyyy better
BigManMike 01-28-2017, 02:37 PM Both sucks in my opinion. MeTV has too many boring westerns. Antenna used to be good but I stopped watching when they started crunching credits. Both of them overplay shows, even though they get new ones periodically. I mostly just stick to Bounce and Laff. They have some good shows and some good movies.

Sunday Night is the only time the channel is watchable to me. Never has been on the same level as Antenna TV
Nordy 01-28-2017, 07:50 PM I'm on a boycott since they took my Kojak off the schedule!
TVFactFan 01-28-2017, 08:13 PM Their 11pm to 1am on Sunday Night should be 9pm to 11pm.
Not some damm Columbo and Night Stalker from 9pm to 11pm
Svenfan1234 01-28-2017, 08:50 PM Their schedule would be better if they took off the 9PM MacGyver and brought back the Comedy Conundrum then.
Coffeecup 01-29-2017, 11:33 AM Just how much tv do you all watch? I jump around if I find one station has something I don't like. There is Cozi, Antenna, METV, Decades, Laff, and maybe one or two others. Sure there are shows I don't care for on all the stations I mention, but I don't bash the station. One can read a book, do housework, or work outside the house. You folks must watch a lot of tv.
tlc38tlc38 01-29-2017, 11:53 AM Their 11pm to 1am on Sunday Night should be 9pm to 11pm.
Not some damm Columbo and Night Stalker from 9pm to 11pm
YES!
TVFactFan 01-29-2017, 12:40 PM well today there is a Mary Tyler Moore Mini-thon from 2pm to 5pm on ME-TV
But that's it. After 5pm nothing else comes on until 11pm:lol:

Well I love "The Love Boat" !! But I really think they could have a longer marathon for Mary than just 3 hours! Just 6 episodes! That's nothing considering how long the MTM show ran. And she was a popular actress too!;)
TVFactFan 01-29-2017, 12:52 PM Well I love "The Love Boat" !! But I really think they could have a longer marathon for Mary than just 3 hours! Just 6 episodes! That's nothing considering how long the MTM show ran. And she was a popular actress too!;)
should be all day. ME-TV can't even get that right
pkripper001 01-29-2017, 01:11 PM Marion Ross will be on THE LOVE BOAT at 5:00PM Eastern
Vicki Lawrence & Fred Willard,LOVE BOAT at 6:00PM Eastern
Denver Pyle(Uncle Jesse) on ANDY GRIFFITH at 7:00PM Eastern
LUNCH 01-29-2017, 02:56 PM MeTV is still a good channel.Their main problem as other folks have mentioned is they show way too many westerns, and they are too heavy on dramas.Personally I'd like to see them focus on adding more classic sitcoms to their line-up. Make it a more even balance between dramas and comedies. As far as westerns go there is a channel called "GRIT" that's basically a free over the air channel that shows a lot of classic westerns. If you get MeTV you probably get that channel as well. So there's already plenty of westerns on TV already and that's not even counting cable.
Coffeecup 01-30-2017, 01:02 PM I did watch the first episode of Mary Tyler Moore on Sunday but I found the quality of the viewing of the show to be a little foggy looking. By that the faces didn't seem that crisp. It seems like a little veil over people faces. I was a bit disappointed.
stevea 02-01-2017, 10:08 PM I agree that MeTV has too many dramas/westerns. Weekdays, sitcoms end at 9 am and don't resume until 6 pm, and 9-10 pm was recently lost. I imagine their western programming is offered as an alternative to antenna tv sitcoms. MeTV shows more actual program than antenna tv. So with antenna tv we see more of those garbage, low-class ads.
tlc38tlc38 03-31-2017, 08:17 PM Now that I'm FINALLY able to get MeTV, I wouldn't say it's lost it's appeal. I'd just say it needs a little revamping.
My opinions:
Lessen the westerns.
Air more "Happy Days", "The Odd Couple", & "The Beverly Hillbillies".
Bring in a couple more 80s shows like "It's a Living" and "Perfect Strangers".
Bring back "Petticoat Junction"!
treky 04-01-2017, 02:32 AM I think ME TV has too many dramas, they need to cut back on them. Also the Norman Lear shows.
And get rid of "ALL IN THE FAMILY"!!! That show's been rerun over and over and over and over....it was on Nick at Nite, TV Land, and it's been on forever in local syndication.
They also need to show the lost "HONEYMOONERS" episodes and stop showing "the classic 39" over and over and over and over and over......

I think 80s shows would fit better on Antenna TV . METV focuses more on pre 1980s programming.
Crusinforabrusin 04-01-2017, 04:48 AM I'd love to see METV add Gentle Ben and The Real McCoys.
I also would. Not mind seeing shows like Dallas or Falcon Crest either

I remember about five years ago seeing promos for the lost episodes which aired late at night. So that means they're probably still in MeTV's library and could return. Though it is possible their contract expired.
TVFactFan 04-01-2017, 12:40 PM I don't recall Me-TV having much of an appeal besides the Sunday Night schedule after 9pm
Other than that the station is A$$

I agree that Sundays are the best day for MeTV but I also enjoy several other shows they offer throughout the week:
Mama's Family
The Beverly Hillbillies
Mayberry R.F.D.
Carol Burnett & Friends
Leave it to Beaver
The Donna Reed Show
Matlock
Mister Ed
Also, I didn't use to like "CHiPs" & "Perry Mason" but the more I watch of them, I'm beginning to like them more and more.
Of course, I'd change a few things about the network if I were in charge but I'm not. I'm just so thankful to finally be able to get MeTV on Directv. I'm not complaining about it.
Not a complaint, just a statement: I wish they'd move up the Sunday night lineup by an hour and start it at 10 instead of 11.

I see you get Mayberry RFD. That one depends on where you live, but I"d love to see that one.
Hazel Anyday 04-01-2017, 06:56 PM Well, opinions are like butts, everyone has one, I just hope the ME TV folks aren't paying attention to 99% of those here. I must disagree, I think ME should add more westerns BUT instead of playing the same western series forever, as is the case with Rifleman (this must have been shown 100 times over already) they need to put on a VARIETY of TV westerns, lordy knows there are plenty to choose from. Big Valley, Bonanza & Rifleman are long overdue to be removed and replaced with other westerns. I really love that ME TV FINALLY decided to stop endlessly showing only the color years of Gunsmoke. Those color years were the worst episodes of Gunsmoke, BUT these wonderful 1/2 hour b/w Gunsmokes were the absolute best of any western TV series ever. Superb, and so long overdue to be shown on a Free TV network. Too bad TV Land doesn't seem to realize there's more to Gunsmoke than the lousy color shows where everyone in the population is portrayed as toothless moron lowlifes.
I truly hate MASH and would be happy to never see it again (this is a wish I've already made true by never watching). There is a way for Me TV to improve though, bring back My 3 Sons, by the way love seeing Our Miss Brooks (another series never shown till now) and would love to see Mammy's Family forever banished and replaced with a genuine TV classic like Life of Riley and bring on Great Gildersleeve brief TV series for a short run thru. Also really like the fact ME has finally brought back 77 Sunset Strip, now if they could replace Alfred Hitchcock Hour (another series that has been run too many times already) with Hawaiian Eye. That would be an excellent choice to go along with 77 Sunset Strip, not to mention bringing back Surfside 6! And how about running ALL My 3 Sons to show you really care about quality, run the Bub years and the later never seen My 3 Sons years too. How about Farmers Daughter? Wow I'm excited just thinking about seeing these again. Come on ME TV shelve those late '70's, '80's and '90's shows already (I'm talking about you MASH) and start running the genuine classics from the '50's and '60's.:D

The Sunday night lineup use to be at 10:00 P.M. but got pushed back an hour for Kolchak: The Night Stalker.
- CHIPs is a great show. It took me awhile as well to get into it. As for Perry Mason , its alright. Maybe I didn't give it a chance , but from the episodes I saw , I was bored and ended up switching the channel.

While I don't necessarily agree with adding more westerns , I do agree with mixing them up a bit. Bonanza and Gunsmoke are overplayed so much that even if you love these series , you may grow sick of them because they're on so much. METV should focus on westerns that aren't seen much on television anymore such as Yancy Derringer , Cheyenne , Zane Grey Theater , Death Valley Days , etc...
The main reason METV isnt showing as many shows from the 60s and 50s is because (A) The prints are in bad condition or don't even exist anymore or (B) Some other station owns the rights. As for Mash , if you don't like it , you don't have to watch it. It would be nice to have Hawaiian Eye replace Alfred Hitchcock hour. I don't care for Hitchcock , so that be a welcome addition to the schedule.
Coffeecup 04-01-2017, 07:53 PM I think 80s shows would fit better on Antenna TV . METV focuses more on pre 1980s programming.
OH no don't do that. Stick the 80's shows on Nick At Nite for when NAN was first on the air the 80's shows were in production. I don't want to see shows from that short time ago. I have lived the 80's and probably have seen most shows from that time.
Samme 04-02-2017, 12:58 AM If MeTV goes very deeply into the shows of the 80s, the channel will die.
BigManMike 04-02-2017, 08:41 AM I wish MeTV would show more 80s shows and get rid of those stupid Westerns.

I don't really like westerns but I don't think they should eliminate them altogether.
I also would like to see a FEW more sitcoms from the 70s-80s added but not a lot. Maybe "Perfect Strangers" and "It's a Living".
