"Will & Grace" Revival Ordered for 10 Episodes, Actor Leslie Jordan Says
by Ryan Schwartz
December 31, 2016

NBC has yet to officially announce it’s moving forward with a "Will & Grace" revival, but Karen Walker’s beloved frenemy may have just let the cat out of the bag.

In a recent interview with radio station KPBS, Leslie Jordan — who won an Emmy for his role as Beverly Leslie — came forth and insisted that NBC has already commissioned a 10-episode follow-up to begin shooting next summer.

“It’s back,” Jordan said. “Here’s the way it works: NBC has ordered 10 [episodes]. It’ll be for next season, so they’ll go in in July.”

Debra Messing Shoots Down "Will & Grace" Revival Rumor
by Liam Mathews
Jan 3, 2017

"Will & Grace" star Debra Messing says that the show is unrevived...for now.

Frequent "Will & Grace" guest star Leslie Jordan said in a recent interview that a revival of the classic sitcom is definitely happening. He even gave specific details, like it will be 10 episodes and will go into production in July for a fall premiere on NBC.

Not so fast, says Debra Messing.

"Sadly Leslie was wrong. Nothing beyond talks." Messing tweeted in response to a fan asking if Jordan's report was true.

"Will & Grace" To Return with New Season on NBC
by Nellie Andreeva
January 18, 2017

The Emmy-winning "Will & Grace" is returning to NBC. After months of complex and difficult negotiations, the network has closed a deal for a new 10-episode limited installment of the hit series, to air during the 2017-18 season.

NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke made the announcement at the top of NBC’s TCA presentation. It was accompanied by a video.

The new, ninth season of "Will & Grace" stems from the surprise election-themed reunion mini-episode released on Sept. 26. Done without NBC’s involvement, it immediately triggered talk of a possible real reunion.

Slowly but surely, producing studio Universal TV was able to secure stars Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes as well as creators/executive producers Max Mutchnick and David Kohan. Veteran director James Burrows, who directed every episode of the show during its initial eight-year run, is on board to direct and executive produce.

“We started talking with Mutchnick and Kohan about producing new episodes right after they shot the secret reunion show back in September, and the fact that all four of the original stars were excited about getting back into production is a testament to the joyful experience they had doing nearly 200 episodes for eight seasons,” said Salke,

“Few things cut through the clutter these days, especially in comedy, and Will and Grace is one of the best.”

Both shows brought gay men into mainstream entertainment, but did so at the cost of their dignity.

I've seen a clip on Twitter - apparently the cast came out and sang live on the Radio City Music Hall stage today for NBC's Upfronts. I would love to see that performance...

Debra Messing Explains Where "Will & Grace" will Pick Up
by Megan Vick
May 24, 2017

It's been 11 years since "Will & Grace" went off the air, and it'll be 11 years since the foursome have reconvened when NBC's reboot airs in the fall.

Debra Messing spilled the beans during a Sirius XM appearance on The Bill Carter Interview about the show addressing the time gap in the revival so the series will take place in real time and allow the writers to work in the current political climate.

"All I know is that I was told that they've come up with a very creative way of dealing with how the show ended, and that it will be in real time. So it will be 11 years after," she said. That means the revival will happen in the flash-forward finale that aired at the end of series in 2006.

We know that NBC wanted to greenlight the revival after the cast reunited for a very popular Hilary Clinton ad, but it was the outcome of the actual election that made Messing want to sign on for a full season.

"I think, at least for me, the country is scared and confused, and so many things are changing very quickly. And I was feeling a deep need to laugh. I wasn't sleeping, I wasn't eating. And then when we got together and we laughed, it was just so healing," she said.

"I think, at least for me, the country is scared and confused, and so many things are changing very quickly. And I was feeling a deep need to laugh. I wasn't sleeping, I wasn't eating. And then when we got together and we laughed, it was just so healing," she said.

The same feeling was felt by her fellow cast members when they regrouped, leading to the revival fans have been hoping for.

"We looked around and were like, 'You know, we need to laugh.' So we should assume other people need to laugh. So this would be a chance for us to give people a little respite, hopefully," the actress explained. "But then also do what we have always done which is shine a light on what is happening in the world."

The current uncertainty in the world will not only fuel "Will & Grace's" subject matter, but encourage the cast to take risks and try to soothe the anxieties of its audience.

"We'll talk about social issues, political issues, and be outrageous," she said. "And it seemed like there literally is no better time than right now for this kind of show that's already welcomed, to come back and to try to make people think the way that we did 10 years ago."

I am not sure if I would consider Will & Grace's estrangement storyline really all that stupid, but if I do, this is how a revival can tarnish the legacy of a great TV series.

There was an article (http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/will-grace-will-revival-deal-series-finale/) posted yesterday on TVSeriesFinale.com about how the W&G revival will deal with its 2006 series finale. The upcoming revival will largely ignore the estrangement storyline (or maybe throw it out)?

This was stated by Michael Ausiello of TVLine:

They’re (mostly) pulling a Roseanne. The finale posited that Will and Grace remained estranged well into their 50s. That will clearly be scrubbed from the history books. Completely eliminating Will and Grace’s now-teenage children (with Leo and Vince, respectively) from the revival equation will likely prove more of a challenge. But that’s what boarding school is for, right?”

Please edit this post if I spoiled anything regarding the Will & Grace revival. Thank you.

If Ellen comes back, I would love to hear her refer to her own bosoms as torpedoes again!

The NBC hit is returning to a different world, one where everything is picked apart by social media. As Brookes Barnes notes, “With the legalization of gay marriage and Transparent and gay characters even popping up on the Disney Channel, the question is not whether Will & Grace is too inclusive — too ahead of the culture — but whether it is inclusive enough. At a time when Hollywood is under intense pressure to avoid stereotypes and to promote diversity from every possible angle, Will & Grace — once seen as the epitome of diversity on television — could actually find itself assailed for being behind the curve.” If the show does offend, co-creator Max Mutchnick hopes its fan base “grandfathers us in to a lot of forgiveness.” PLUS: Why the Will & Grace reboot is necessary (https://www.advocate.com/current-issue/2017/9/07/will-grace-revival-isnt-just-nostalgia-its-necessity).
