NO - she is not dead

She did turn 80 on December 29 2016. :)

I thought we could all use a little cheering up from the
"one who can turn the world on with her smile..."

Hollywood legend Mary Tyler Moore turned 80 on Dec. 29, 2016. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1936, the star made her onscreen debut at age 17, playing a tiny elf dancing on a TV commercial for Hotpoint appliances that aired during Ozzie and Harriet. In 1961, Carl Reiner cast her on The Dick Van Dyke Show, which eventually led to The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which aired from 1970-1977. Throughout her career, she picked up six Emmy Awards, two Tonys, and an Oscar nomination. In honor of Moore's birthday, see photos her through the years, ahead.

Whew!! I thought it was more bad news! I knew she was getting up there
in age. Glad to see she's celebrating another birthday! My favorite character
for her was as Laura Petrie

Thank God not more bad news. Glad she's celebrating a hallmark birthday. Not only is she a wonderful talent, but she's done so much humanitarian work for diabetes.

Happy 80th to Mary Tyler Moore! :) Glad to hear some good news for a change, given what's been going on. I'll admit I was scared at first when I saw this thread pop up.

I was too, given that MTM was born pretty much right at the bottom of the year in 1936.

Ah, the first time ever I..didn't see her face, as "Richard Diamond, Private Detective"'s receptionist, Sam - just..JUST ?!.. various other parts, and, oh, that voice. She was captivating then, and captivating now.

I really think the title should be changed in the first post to say Happy Birthday Mary Tyler Moore. It's very misleading with just her name. With so many celebrities passing away, why upset people.

Personally, I think all threads should be required to address the main point of the conversation in the title. I know I can mouse-over or click it to see what it's all about, but nobody should have to do that.

I know-- when I first saw her name as the subject of the thread, I thought she had passed on short of her 80th birthday (she didn't, though, thankfully).
