Someone else pointed this out. "The vibe at The Evans house was way too festive after James's funeral for his sudden death. You have a festive mood after the funeral for someone you know was old, sick and in a lot of pain for months and you knew they were going to die soon, but not for a man who was relatively young, and healthy, and suddenly died in a car accident! " I do have to agree with the poster. I also was thinking,"Aren't they acting way too festive for just after a funeral?" Thelma emotionally screaming,"They sound like they are having a ball out there!" Was spot on.....

Yes it was kind of tacky the way they carried on given those circumstances but it was the show's way of setting up this classic moment when Florida finally was able to let her real feelings about that horrible situation out.

The rest of the cast was probably happy to be rid of John Amos.

Wasn't Esther Rolle upset about him leaving though?

John Amos was the best actor on the show. IMO, John Amos WAS Good Times.
