Season 1, Episode 9 "Mama's Review" was a clip show! This has to be some sort of record, right? Is there another show out there that did a clip show (a legitimate one, not a parody) sooner in its run?

I thought that was pretty pathetic. I’m not a fan of this show but decided to buy the DVDs anyway (after months of saying I would NEVER buy it). I just figured I’d like to have every available sitcom on DVD from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. Anyway, I watched the first couple of discs and came upon that episode and thought to myself “Really? A clip show? Already?” It’s WAY too soon to be having one of those. Especially on a show (for me) with very little laughs to look back on. Haha

In the same season (1978-79), Diff'rent Strokes had a clip show in what was the 8th episode of the 1st season. At even a faster clip, timewise than WKRP. The Diff'rent Strokes episode aired on 12/29/78 (series premiere was 11/10/78). The WKRP time-spacing was 1/15/79 (clip show) vs premiere 9/18/78.

Were they out of ideas already or you think they were trying to pick up some new viewers by showing them some of their best stuff? It seems odd (especially in the binge-crazed world today) for any show to have a clip show so early in its run.

They were basically restarting the show. They went in hiatus from early November (note that the Thanksgiving episode played on October 30), then came back in mid-January at 9:30 on Mondays instead of 8:00. The clip show was the first at the later hour.

Oh, well I guess that makes sense then.
